Re: Inactive user names will be pruned

Husse, on the Klikit forums, we instituted the use of capchas during registration, as well as requiring a valid email address, to which a validation email is sent. The newly registered member must then click a link in the email to activate their account. Since we put those measures in place a month ...

Mint Update problem

I used Synaptic to force the older version of the the flash plugin for Firefox. This has cured the problem I had of Firefox crashing when I closed a window or tab after playing a flash video. I then used Synaptic again to "lock version" so that the plugin would not be automatically upgraded to the b...

Re: Elyssa KDE CE converted my laptop to a hot plate.

squashpup, Kpowersave is probably set to performance mode, which keeps your CPU at full speed even when idle or under light load. Look in the notification area in the lower right corner of your screen for the Kpowersve icon. It looks like the plug end of a power cord. you may have to click the arrow...

Re: Linux Mint 4 incompatible with Picasa 2.7?

I believe you are right. I seem to recall that I had the same problem when trying to run wine apps inside a virtual machine. It could be simply that you are dealing with two layers of emulation, each of which independently slows down the apps execution somewhat, but cumulatively slows it so much as ...

Re: Automatically mount hard drives?

Papabearak I tried the menu stuff and it works but I'm worried setting me to root and sudo could be a security problem. You can avoid making those changes by logging on as root and doing the remaining steps as root, or you can set sudo and root access for your user account, set the drives up the wa...

Re: Automatically mount hard drives?

Is there anyway to make KDE or something mount my hard drives when I boot up Mint? Thanks for any help. Actually, you might find this tutorial from the Klikit Wiki to be helpful. Klikit and Mint KDE are virtually identical in many ways, and what works for one works just as well for the other. I per...

Re: Linux Mint 4 incompatible with Picasa 2.7?

I finally did get it install by installing the Deb, but on the virtual machine I am testing it on Picasa 2.7 is dog slow and unusable. The cpu is always sucking up 30% even at idle. F-Spot works really well. That's odd Paul. I'm guessing it's an artifact of the virtual machine. Maybe you don't have...

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa KDE CE RC1 (BETA 045) is out!

The only problems I have seen so far with my Mint KDE RC-1 install is that A. Firefox3 crashes a lot. It crashes when I close a tab or window, after playing a flash video or flash-based game, which is probably due to a bug in the flash plugin, but it also crashes at other times and in other circumst...

Re: Linux Mint 4 incompatible with Picasa 2.7?

I just downloaded the DEB file from here:

http://picasa.google.com/linux/download.html

saved it to my downloads folder, then double-clicked the DEB file to launch Gdebi. Gdebi installed it just fine, and it is working great on my Mint KDE RC-1 install. Ben

Re: New features for Elyssa KDE

I loved the selection of included apps in Daryna. It is the most complete of any distro I have tried, without a lot of needless duplication. To make the system fully functional for my needs, I only had to add wine, VirtualBox, krita, Picasa2. I'd suggest substituting krita for the gimp, to save a bi...
