Re: Samba not accepting credentials

I got mapping to a Windows share working in the GUI now. I figured out what the issue was by accident (or discovery). I manually browsed the Network under Computer to the server I wanted to connect to, and when accessing the server, the connect box prompted with a different domain than what I had or...

Re: Resolve by hostname and not IP

I went back to Windows on my host since I had to work. However, I loaded virtualbox and installed Mint 13 MATE. Now I can work and tinker with Mint as time permits. I was able to get ping by hostname working with very little modification. All I had to do was edit /etc/resolv.conf. My company's DNS I...

Re: Samba not accepting credentials

I finally got it to work with this code: sudo mount -t cifs //serverIP/share /media/personal -o username=domain/username Note that the slash is / and not \ after typing the domain name. In the media directory, I can make a mount point for each share I need to connect to. Example: /media/deptshare /m...

Re: Samba not accepting credentials

I went one step further and installed smbfs in Synaptic Package Manager. I then tried mapping at the Terminal in case there is an issue with the GUI. sudo mkdir /media/personal sudo mount -t cifs -o username=domain\username //serverIP/share /media/personal My terminal results are: mount error(13): P...

Re: Samba not accepting credentials

Nope. It is not a permissions issue. Something in Samba is hosed. I tested it. I logged onto one of my servers and temporarily created a brand new share. I assigned my AD account exclusive full rights to the share and NTFS permissions. In Mint, I tried connecting to the new share and it does the sam...

Re: Resolve by hostname and not IP

I edited NetworkManger.conf and remmed out dns=dnsmasq. I rebooted my system, but things just got worse. I could still ping by IP, but hostname was still unknown. The worse part is when I discovered I could no longer access anything on the Internet. I reverted the conf file back to its original conf...

[SOLVED] Resolve by hostname and not IP

I have a clean Mint 13 Maya 64bit install on my laptop. I have the LAN connected to my workplace, which is a Windows AD domain. I can ping workstations and servers by IP, but not by hostname. I have the DNS servers statically set on the NIC, as well as the AD domain name in the "search domains" fiel...

Re: Samba not accepting credentials

I am having the exact same issue. I have a clean Mint 13 Maya install 64bit. Any help will be appreciated. I want to test Mint in a Windows domain setting, but I am getting stopped right out of the gate if I can't access network shares. Don't make me go back to Windows this early in the game!

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot Load OS

I searched the error and found the following article: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Methods_of_Reinstalling At first, I tried Copy LiveCD Files, and then Copy Partition Files sections. None worked even though I did not get any errors executing the steps. I then tried Use Boot-Repair Graphi...

Re: Need Universal Access Menu Icon or Quick Zoom Hotkey

I'll check on this once Mint will boot again. (See my "Cannot Load OS" post in the newbie section.) I'll mark as Solved once I can confirm. Thanks!

[SOLVED] Cannot Load OS

I came home today and found my computer running, but could not get video. It appears my two year old climbed up the computer desk and repetitively turned the power button on and off. (Thanks for watching him wifey!) Now, I can only get the BIOS loading screen, and then it goes to a black screen. I h...

[SOLVED]Need Universal Access Menu Icon or Quick Zoom Hotkey

Hello, I'm new to Linux Mint. I am running version 12 32bit with Gnome 3. I have vision issues and need to use the Zoom feature I found in the Universal Access Menu. (I basically need the magnifying tool Windows has under Accessibility.) Unlike all the other postings and web searches I've read, I ac...
