I can't delete items using the menu editor it is really slow and buggy.
Is there a file I can open from the console and delete the entries manually?
Thanks!

Re: Do I need a SWAP file or partition? (8GB RAM)
I think I'll make a 8-16 GB one at the end of my disk when I have time to boot into a liveCD.
Is there no way to do it while the system is turned on? It is mounted as my /home. I'm sure I could modify partitions while logged in in Windows so surely Linux has a way?

Grub stopped loading Mint automatically
My Mint has started behaving strangely and I had to blacklist some SP5100_TCO driver, whatever that means . (I started getting a message every startup saying mmio address already in use). Since I started getting that message my mint doesn't automatically load it just stays on grub waiting for...

Do I need a SWAP file or partition? (8GB RAM)
I am wondering if I need one or not. I have never seen my RAM usage go over 3GB. Though I haven't done anything intensive like encoding or gaming. I imagine swapfiles/partitions are for the days of 2gb ram being a large amount? What other benefit could I have from a swapfile? Could I make an 8gb swa...

Re: Is 100GB for /root too much?
My root always gets quite big, pushing 20gb. A full LaTeX installation is 1GB for example.
Though most users probably don't want to install a plethora of development tools and other things.

.deb files and automatic updates
If I download a .deb file from a website, does it have some kind of information to connect to a server of theirs and automatically update itself when I run apt-get upgrade? I am just wondering whether I should always go for adding repositories over downloading a .deb. (Mainly because I want the late...

Re: Errors when starting Mint live CD
AHCI might have fixed it. The reason I was in my BIOS is because I noticed in CPU-ID my memory was in unganged mode and I wanted to put it ganged. While I was there I had a browse and noticed ahci mode wasn't on. So it could have been one of those two things. I can't see how either would affect it t...

Sharing iTunes playlist/folder with dual boot windows
I've searched a lot for this and all I seem to be able to find is how to import your current iTunes playlist into a Linux audio player. Are there any I can just load the playlist and leave it and any changes made will update in iTunes on Windows and any changes on iTunes on Windows will update in Li...

Re: Errors when starting Mint live CD
I never managed to install the last Mint Edition. I also had problems trying to install Mint 14. This time it wouldn't give any console things just an empty grey box. For other reasons I was tweaking the bios today and saw it was in IDE mode so I switched to AHCI. Windows 7 seemed to be already conf...

Re: Errors when starting Mint live CD
Hi, sorry for the late reply.
I reburned at lowest speed and had the same problems. I also tried the 32 bit edition at lowest speed and it was the same.
I installed 32 bit on my netbook with no problem though!

Re: Mint/Linux in general /root partition size
Cool, I should hopefully have some room for some games too. I'm having home included with /. But I will have a separate data partition for all the /home/Documents, Downloads, Videos etc etc. So all the settings are distro specific, but the data is shared. I believe I shall go for 12.5GB then! I was ...

Mint/Linux in general /root partition size
Hey, You know with Linux, would 12.5GB be generous enough for "/"? (Not including data!) Assuming I'd have some text editors, IDEs, Java, Haskel, maybe some TeX things, Libre office etc? I would imagine just the apps of linux wouldn't take up 100gs of GB like in Windows. I just got a new (...

Re: Multiple distros sharing /home
Thanks for all the really detailed answers :) I feel I should do in the way where you have "home" included with "/", then just use links to Documents/Music etc in a data partition. That seems to make the most sense as I can have all the same usernames as well. The only problem wi...

Multiple distros sharing /home
Hi, I want to install mint lxde, kde and gnome but have them as separate installations, because of the different processes that load in the background unnecessarily when you have all 3 shells in the same installation. Also the menus are so bloated with all 3 in one installation. I have partitioned m...
