Re: 10 Reasons Why Linux Sucks
There is only one reason why Linux sucks. It sucks for suckers. And as everybody??? knows, the best things in life are free.

Re: My idea of in ergonomic desktop
With Mint 13 Mate I have the fastest and and best organized desktop I have ever used or tried, and that includes the Enligtenment desktop. One needs a bit of experience to do that, and one needs to know what extra programs to install. There are a few things I can do to make it even better. There are...

Re: Linux Mint music creation forum?
If you are interested in music software, you will probably use some sort of electronic keyboard. Some software work on Linux, and some do not. I would suggest you try Pianoworld Forum. There is a subforum for electronic keyboards, with some really heavy expertice on music software. If you dont get t...

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?
When Solus 2 is final I will have that dualbooted with Mate. So no problem. Seems they will either have the Ubuntu or Debian installer, so it will not be necessary to waste time with complicated partition tools.

Re: nVidia drivers make X server crash
No solution here, but some ideas, suspicions. I am using Mint 13 Mate on a 5 year old Acer Aspire 32 bit with nvidia geforce go 7300, and have had no problems with Mate or any other Linux distro I have tried. On my new Aspire 64 bit, I have tested both Mate and Debian with a live persistent pendrive...

Re: 2012's Best Linux desktop: Linux Mint 13
Nice blog. But there is one piece of info that is not correct. Ubuntu 10.04 is not more easy to use than 13 Mate. Mate is probably the easiest Linux to use, and one of the best. So I cannot see any reason to use Ubuntu.

Re: My Debian Saga
Hi KBD 47. I read your blog, and I have had some of the same problems as you. But some years ago I had Debian Etch installed as dual boot with Win XP, and installation from DVD was very easy. So I thought I would give Squeeze another try. To be absolutely sure the installation medium was perfect I b...

Re: Software Manager freeze at 16%
I am pretty sure it is only the progress bar that is freezing, and that the installation works. If you can see 1 ongoing action, the installation is functioning, and when it changes to 0 ongoing action the installation is finished, and the program should be found in the place where it belongs. My pr...

Re: Thread for those experiencing freezes in Maya/Mate.
I use Mate 32 bit with nvidia driver on an Acer laptop, and the system freezes only when I watch TV after about ten minutes. First the screen goes black and then the sound disappears. I have the same problem both in Firefox and Opera. Problem with nvidia or flashplayer have been suggested, and some ...

Re: Software Manager Progress Bar Freeze
You know when it is finished when the program you are installing shows up in the expected place in the Menu. I have the same problem, but I just click on install, check that the installation starts, open the Menu to where it should install, and so far the installation have always worked. I suspect t...

Re: Linux Mint + Ubuntu
It is very easy. Ubuntu will do the install. Just start the installation, and choose the option: Install Ubuntu besides Mint. All the rest is just like the Mint installation. On bootup Ubuntu will boot by default, so when you want to use Mint, you have to change that. I cannot imagine any problems w...

Re: mintInstall behaves erratically
I have had exactly the same problem, and found it very irritating to have to look in the menu to see if programs were installed. I suspected there might be an error with the installation, bought a live/install pendrive from OSDisk, did a new install, and now Mintinstall works the way it is supposed ...

Re: Mint Linux painfully slow on netbook
I use 13 Mate on an Acer Aspire laptop with 1GB ram and dual core AMD 1.65GHz, and it works faster than any OS I have tried, so there must be some serious error with the installation.

Re: Linux Mint 13 is performing very badly in all its versio
I use Mint 13 Mate on a 5 year old Acer Aspire 9303 with 1GB ram and an AMD Turion dual core 1.6GHz, and everything works a bit faster than Win 7 on my new Acer with 4GB ram and a much faster Intel processor. I have used Mate for a bit more than a month, and so far only a couple of minor problems to...

Re: Finding installed applications
Hi geoff. Whatever you do, do not give up. If tor does not show up in the software manager, there must be an error somewhere. That is not unusual. But if you write, tor help, in the terminal, you should see whether it is installed or not. Sudo not necessary. I an pretty new to Mint myself, and stran...

Just found the easy way to use Google in Firefox. Just open Linux Mint Startpage and Google is there right at the top. Re: Which version of Mint do people suggest using?
I have used Mint 13 Mate for more than a month, and so far I have managed to fix one lockup by restarting from the taskbar, two program errors by using apt-get install in the terminal, and two others just by installing the latest updates. So it seems to me that keeping updated solves most problems. ...

Re: M-13/Maint: Add Google to search engine list
I have not managed to use Google in Firefox either, but I also use Opera, and Google is the default search engine there, and it is very easy to change to whatever you want. In my experience Opera is the best browser around, and it is very efffective to have Firefox open on one desktop, and Opera on ...
