Re: nfs-common problems when upgrading to UP5
Same problem here, timeout during boot but NFS shares all mounted once it was up and running. The fix for me was to look at the output of 'mount' in a terminal and then compare the settings to what I had in /etc/fstab. The old options were: 192.168.0.155:/homes/pigsy /mnt/pigsy nfs auto,rw,soft,intr...

Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi
I've compiled Wine on Ubuntu before to see if I get a performance boost, but I didn't notice anything so I stick with packages since they are quicker. As for uninstallation goes, if you use checkinstall, it will generate a deb from the compiled source and install it (Installation can be toggled in ...

Re: No more sound
Apologies, I missed a section about using a .asoundrc file with ALSA, so I've added it to the post above. It looks like you've made good progress anyway, I went through similar issues until I got ALSA working. Ialso tried OSS4 but I didn't have much success with it (some apps worked but others would...

Re: [Howto] Install Wine (and other debs) using Local Reposi
I always compile Wine from the source code, this way you don't have to add any extra repos which may cause problems with your Mint installation. It does mean you need to install a bunch of stuff from the normal Mint repos before Wine will compile with all features, but not to worry it's mostly devel...

Re: Help installing World of Warcraft
WoW certainly does work well in Linux Mint using Wine, I was playing it last night :) However, I don't use the version of Wine in the Mint repos as I always compile it myself from source code. There's a wealth of info on getting it to work in the Wine AppDB but it can be tricky sometimes. If Launche...

Re: force your system to use a specific dhcp server
No, unfortunately that's not possible with DHCP. Your computer sends out a generic 'Give me an IP address' request and the first DHCP server on the same network subnet that sees the request will reply with an IP for your computer. It sounds like you may need to give your machine a static IP address.

Re: No more sound
I also had issues with sound and decided to remove Pulseaudio and replace it with ALSA. All my apps work very well now, including sound in World of Warcraft under Wine. My system: LMDE UP4 with kernel 3.2 (32 bit) KDE 4.7 with KDM as my display manager Nvidia HDMI on-board sound. This is how I got A...
