Re: Nautilus File Share

Well Cinnamon doesn't work if you are Vino'ing remotely.. So that might be an issue for some. for what it is worth ..... Not trying to be rude but why spend so much effort to run Mate? Install Cinnamon and you will have Nautilus and Nautilus Share plus all the up to date goodness of Gnome 3 running ...

Re: How long until Firefox 13 is in LMDE repo?

You can just uninstall Firefox, download 13 and run sudo tar -xvf firefox-13.0.tar.bz2 -C /opt

All your settings, desktop shortcuts etc will remain the same.

Re: Mint LMDE and VMware Fusion

Honestly it doesn't make a difference. I use Debian v6 and it works just fine. One thing that is fustrating about VMWare Fusion is if the Guest tools breaks on newer release you are forced to buy a new version of Fusion. In that sense, Virtualbox is better. VMware Fusion for the Mac offers a selecti...

Re: Thunderbird 12 "Connecting to update Server" workaround?

The problem is I thought Mozilla themselves have decided to go the way of Google.. that is releasing upgrade at a much faster clip and a lot of these errors are security / stability issues... I would say use in app upgrade when you have reviewed the release notes first eg https://www.mozilla.org/en-...

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird 12

Have you thought of starting both at safe mode in CLI? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode It should tell you wants wrong.

I seem to recall there is some extensions and search engine settings that might be changed if you do direct download vs apt-get

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird 12

I should post an apology.. yes don't use PPA. This is how I upgrade. 0. Verify that your firefox / thunderbird is installed in /opt directory 1. sudo apt-get remove your firefox / thunderbird (so it is removed from the apt source). 2. Download the latest tar.gz from Mozilla website. 3. Extract the a...

Re: Changing default browser

Editing prefs.js / user.js or metadata.rdf won't work. You have to follow the instructions here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser Navigate to "Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced" in the Thunderbird menus and click on the "Config Editor" button. Search for the following three entries: network...

Thunderbird 12 "Connecting to update Server" workaround?

Hi there There had been quite a few rapid releases of Thunderbird lately. from 11 to 12 then 12.01. Thunderbird has "in app" upgrade via the Help -> About Thunderbird. If one is running Thunderbird with normal permissions and sees that there is an update and goes for it; a upgrade box will display, ...

Re: Vino VNC broken with Cinnamon 1204 RC

A bit of an update,

I replicated the problem with MDM (vs default GDM3) both in Cinnamon.. however in MDM even the default LinuxMint background would not show.. only black background and the mouse pointer.

Can anyone offer any insights / debug technique I can use so to track down the issue?

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird 12

You can add Firefox yourself via instructions here: http://palupix.blogspot.ca/2012/04/how- ... 12-on.html

I don't see Firefox / Thunderbird 12 on any of the repositories.. so we will have to wait for a while if you want it do be done automatically.

Vino VNC broken with Cinnamon 1204 RC

Hello all, I have a problem with using Vino w/ Cinnamon. I can log in OK, the mouse pointers and background display remotely. However the panels / menus only show on the home system, but not on the VNC.. eg If I right click on the remote machine, the menu will display correctly on the local view.. b...
