Re: Birthday gift for me
I had to get rid of Mint since the coreboot did not like it at all. So far using Pop OS, I loathe it. Just a PITA to do anything, no menus, not happy at all with it. I want MInt back. A video was posted on Linux Internationals re POP and it looked dreadful. I'll say here what I said there after wat...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?
Yep, I had to get a new hard drive since Windows 10 wouldn't let me get into the UEFI to change the boot sequence. I installed Linux Mint 18 and was up & running in less than an hour. I love it already. Windows is not happy unless it does something that causes at least four hours of a...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?
That's what I did..I ran Linspire live for three days and fell in love. I then asked myself why I still had Windows on my computer..So I hit the install button and that was that. I really don't remember much of a learning curve, except figuring out what I wanted, and how to get it. Once I understood t...

Re: Appears MS is slowing dropping the bomb
Yeah,tdockery97, Linux would be worth it. The only benefit I can see to the cloud is what Chrome does.Your stuff is backed up in the cloud. My problem with that is your stuff is on a stranger's server. If they decide to do something you don't like, too bad for you...Or if their server goes down or is...

Re: Negativity in the Linux Community
Me and a friend were discussing this in the Google Hangout the other day. Both of us have experienced people on Linux forums being less elitist than they used to be. It used to be people would be attacked for just asking a question and/or told to "rtfm" rather than be helped. Quite frankly...

Oh yeah,I saw that a few days ago on a tech site. Am I surprised? Not one tiny bit.
I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. My big worry is all the Linux distros might start doing
the very same thing.

As others have said, use what works. We may not need Mint, but it's a nice option.
I'm a little scared of rolling releases, that's why I have a rolling release only on the Revo (Manjaro XFCE)
and not on this machine.

Re: Mint saves another machine from the dumpster
I got around four extra years out of an old Compaq thanks to a Linux distro.
A mouse even lived it the machine at one point, but it kept plugging away till the motherboard died.

Wasn't the installation easy! Way better than Windows, which is like pulling teeth...Anyway, I'm sure
you will enjoy the Linux experience quite a bit.
