Re: How to update WD SSD firmware?
Hmm. I do have a Windows 10 Educational VM, but I also have a Windows 10 Home install in a dual-boot laptop. So I installed Windows To Go using Rufus in Windows 10. I had both a Windows 10 ISO and a Windows 10 Educational ISO. Since I really only had a key for the Windows 10 Educational ISO that's t...

How to update WD SSD firmware?
Hello, I have a WD SN850 SSD. I want to update the firmware. With some older SSDs you could use FreeDOS and put the firmware file with the FreeDOS, but with this, you absolutely must use their Windows-only WD Dashboard software. They don't release the firmware files publicly, they can only be downlo...

Re: Google Chrome repository removed?
Confirmed, I'm not getting the error anymore. I updated via a direct download from another site, but it looks to be fixed now.
Just a momentary problem.

Re: Google Chrome repository removed?
I guess it is a regional thing? I tried to get Chrome to stop changing http to https using these instructions: https://superuser.com/questions/565409/how-to-stop-an-automatic-redirect-from-http-to-https-in-chrome Chrome ignored this, but that's nothing new, so I tried it out in Links, a text-based b...

Google Chrome repository removed?
I tried to update Google Chrome today and got an 404 error about not finding the Google Chrome repository IP address. When I checked again I got: The repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable Release' does not have a Release file. I tried to manually go to http://dl.google.com/linux/c...

Re: Backup strategy wrt Timeshift?
Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll take them into consideration. I can see how saving drive images would be good, but in my case it'd be a bit tricky. My system is spread across 5 drives. However from what I understand, that's what Déjà Dup does, it's the entire system, compressed into a series ...

Backup strategy wrt Timeshift?
So I think I have a fairly resilient backup strategy: - Timeshift. Used it several times when I misconfigure software or a kernel update goes badly. Runs automatically daily. - Off-machine rsync backup to a NAS (FreeNAS server). Saved my bacon a few times when I modified or deleted a file I should n...

Re: Which scripts do you use often?
I made a few backup scripts recently and am kind of proud of them, this is the first scripting I've done and I worked out a lot of bugs! First off, a script to backup to my FreeNAS server. I used to do this via cron and I have had problems in the past where it was not available yet the rsync command...

Re: Sound not working - Mint 20
Hasn't been many updates to this thread lately, so I assume the sound problems are fixed? I'm having the fixes work for a while, then not survive a reboot. Then another reboot and they work again. I see there's another PulseAudio update today. Has that made a difference? Should I upgrade? Changelog ...

Re: Warpinator for Windows
Yeah it's too bad Warpinator won't be ported to Windows. The file share system I had working between LM19.3 and Windows 10 has broken down now that I've upgraded to LM20. All the tips and tricks and guides aren't helping and what worked in 19.3 doesn't work with LM20. I've run out of tricks. I'll ge...

Re: Sound not working - Mint 20
Hi mr_t260, and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry I missed your original post somehow. There have been a number of changes between the versions, but I rather doubt most of them are having any influence on your issue. EDIT: Just in case it's this easy, see if running this command then rebooting fixes ...

LibreOffice Writer - strange window behaviour moving from one monitor to another
Hello, New LM 20 with Cinnamon 4.6.6 and LibreOffice 6.4.4. When I try to move a LibreOffice Writer window from one monitor to another it minimizes in a strange way. I get this weird window: Screenshot from 2020-07-24 13-37-22.png (turns out the top "X" closes the window and the bottom &qu...

Re: Large space in left zone of panel
OK, I got it. I played around with this in a VM and realized that when I move panel items around, there's an "X" when I can't move it to an area, but a "hand with arrow" icon when I can. The entire blank area causes an "X", but when I move it to the tiny space just to t...

[SOLVED] Large space in left zone of panel
LM 20, Cinnamon 4.6.6 Hello, I'm trying to configure my new LM 20 installation to look like my old 19.3 installation. I've almost got it and have adopted some nice new features. But there's something weird going on with my panel. I have a huge empty space on the left and can't move any applets into ...

Re: Glitchy sound on Mint 19
1. You said you already tried this, but this time we'll try a 2 step process. In the terminal run xed admin:///etc/pulse/default.pa then enter your password and ignore the warnings. Find this line in the file, load-module module-udev-detect and change it to load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0 t...

Re: Intel WiFi 6 AX200 & AX201 (Cyclone/Harrison Peak 2) Early-Bird Support
LMDE, as with anything Debian, isn't for the cutting edge, and this new networking gear is cutting edge. Debian is stable but very conservative. I would suggest you switch to Linux Mint Cinnamon, MATE or Xfce which can support these newer kernels. If you stick with LMDE, you'll have to wait and use ...

Re: Intel WiFi 6 AX200 & AX201 (Cyclone/Harrison Peak 2) Early-Bird Support
My AX200 just started working with the 5.3 kernel, but everything else isn't, including video.
I was getting speeds of about 200 Mbps according to iperf.
Trying to downgrade to a 5.0 kernel, but holding SHIFT on boot doesn't even bring up the GRUB menu.

Re: Intel WiFi 6 AX200 & AX201 (Cyclone/Harrison Peak 2) Early-Bird Support
I'm just setting this up today and it is as I'd feared - neither the Intel AX200 nor the Realtek RTL8125 are even detected by Linux Mint. I'll play around with updating the kernel but first I have to install all updates and it's painful with my crappy little Wifi adapter. Considering installing a te...

Re: Wireless AC-7265
If your wireless is still working, no need to worry. But if you want that error message to go away see https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=309620 in particular my post at the end: the method I used to install backport-iwlwifi-dkms obviously didn't work. I just went into Synaptic, l...
