Perhaps it does work for you, but it doesn't for me, that's why I've made the post.
So what was the exact keysequence you used then? (it used to be Ctrl+Shift+u)

Yes, go to your System Monitor and click on the 'File System' tab (if you use Gnome, MATE, and possibly XFCE). That will show you usage of any drive that is mounted, including /.
