Re: Encrypted root partition on Helena?
Pay special attention at the last steps, maybe you missed something configurint initramfs. By the way, is aes-xts-plain faster, but less secure than aes-cbc-essiv? If I'm not wrong, aes-cbc-essiv prevents watermarking attacks while aes-xts-plain does not. aes-cbc-essiv uses a random initialization v...

Re: Encrypted root partition on Helena?
I've made a test installation in Virtualbox with Helena RC1, and the howto still works for me
Without modifying any grub file, the password is asked at boot and, after entering it, it boots perfectly. Are you sure you didn't miss anything?

Re: Encrypted root partition on Helena?
Hi guys! I don't know what changes Ubuntu made to it's boot process but in Archlinux's kernel there's a little change. In the menu.lst file, the option root=/dev/mapper/croot is deprecated. You have now to enter two options, for example: cryptdevice=/dev/sda6:croot root=/dev/mapper/croot Have you tr...

Re: How to have console decorations on Linux Mint (now, easier)
Hi ashneo76! About the "DEBUG" part...you have to change any line containing the word "DEBUG" on the .config file. For example: CONFIG_ DEBUG _NX_TEST=y -> # CONFIG_DEBUG_NX_TEST is not set I think there is a way to strip these debug symbols using a command or an option during th...

Re: How to have console decorations on Linux Mint
All this just to get some nicer looks when you boot :) - ah also TTY1 through 6 :) It's not only when you boot, the backgrounds on ttys stay there. I spend much time on them, and the standard black is very tiring for my eyes. Anyway, you only have to do this once per kernel. I mean that I think the...

How to have console decorations on Linux Mint (now, easier)
UPDATE 1 (19/01/2009): - Some minor corrections. - Uploaded Mint theme again, fixed a problem: nothing appearing when setting resolution to 1024x768 due to a mistake in config file. - Found what was making kernel packages so big: debug files. Now, you will only need about ~800 MB and your kernel pa...

Re: Nicer tty
Ok, I finally got it work on Felicia! :D I had the solution in front of me all the time...anyway, i'll try to post a how-to soon. I'll also try to upload the kernel .deb package somewhere for those who want to give it a try without doing all the hard work (it's not as hard as it seems, it's just ver...

Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!
I've been testing this RC1 since the day it was released and the only "bug" I've found...well, I think it's an Ubuntu bug :P PulseAudio seems to have some problems when working while boinc-client is on the background. It's very annoying while listening to music. I'm using Amarok but I wan...

Re: Mint Debian
It works on my VirtualBox without problems. :D Mine installs just fine, but crashes 5 seconds after initial boot. Zwopper, try enabling PAE on the virtual machine configuration. I remember the 686 kernel asking for it days ago while testing another Mint debian iso. Using the 486 kernel, as maybeway3...

Re: Mint Debian
Just in case, I've noticed that some of the links on mintMenu do not work. I can't execute Synaptic through it, for instance. But maybe it's an issue with VirtualBox. Apart from this, I think using Sid instead of Lenny would take this edition a step closer to Main edition. maybeway36, did you finall...

Re: What logo do you like best?
I've voted for jernau's one. I like the actual logo, but jernau's logo is very dynamic. But changing the logo will mean that every piece of artwork has to be redesigned. I mean, for example, this forums and the website...jernau's logo makes me think about a black background for the website and forum...

Re: Mint Debian
OK, so here's the problem I'm having: I recommend that you install Mint Debian by installing Debian command-line first, then adding the mint-debian metapackage. I would much rather have it install the mint-debian package during setup, but the preseeding for the Debian installer doesn't let you use ...

Re: How to: get the whole system encrypted
Ah! And I forgot to mention that, if you want an extra piece of paranoia, you can create a file container with Truecrypt in your /home folder (or use the Ubuntu ~/Private method) and store important files there. But that's only for super-paranoic people
