Re: LM18 / Cinnamon MDM - Changing Login Screen Background

System Settings -> Administration -> Login Window -> (Password). Select Theme (preview with a click on the gear icon. Close the screen and reboot. You misunderstood what Broken Canoe said. He wants to add his own custom background in a current theme. No it doesn't work unless you edit the theme you...

Re: LM18 / Cinnamon MDM - Changing Login Screen Background

I just need to be clear that you're understanding the issue. So to confirm, you can go into mdmsetup, browse for a new background image on any theme, apply it, and it shows? Without editing any configuration files? If that's the case, I'm genuinely surprised because I can't find anyone who can do th...

LM18 / Cinnamon MDM - Changing Login Screen Background

This is an odd one, - I'm wondering if it's an error or just oversight ; In System Settings -> Administration -> Login Window, mdmsetup provides an option to change the login screen background for the theme you're using. This however, doesn't have any effect. Digging deeper, it seems to be hardcoded...

If we ever get around to H for the name of a Linux Mint version, I'd hope they consider naming it Husse in his remembrance.

Re: Mint 18. DId you jump DE?

I dropped KDE and moved to Mate. Between KDE's dropped features, rough edges and the fact that some of the Visual Design Group's decisions for KDE have been absolutely awful for visually impaired people, they don't seem to understand how monochromatic dark icons with little depth or colour are horri...

Re: Any plans to bring back the "Minty Green" theme to this forum?

I'd been asking for a dark theme for an eternity due to visual impairment. In the end I gave up waiting and set up my own theme, - perhaps it's something others would like to try? This is how it looks : http://imgur.com/a/SnPW0 How to do it? 1. Install the Stylish plugin for your browser. 2. Go to :...

Good to hear! Just use the tools that work for you, - simple :) I've been really happy with the Mate edition of LM recently, - it's given me the perfect balance of performance and usability for my work flow. Good luck with your desktop environment travels..! Choice is everything!

Is there an official line from Clem on how this can be done? I thought the whole point of having the backports PPA is that Plasma could be maintained at the latest version..

Re: Remove broken indicator from XFCE indicator panel?

Some great fixes in this thread, - as a heads-up, you can disable Dropbox from auto-starting within the status bar icon, and then delete it from the session autostart list, after which you can create your own start-up using ; /bin/bash -c "sleep 15 && dropbox stop && env DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="" ...

Oddly, I've found that if you hold down ctrl to de-select one file, you can then right click and delete the rest without them being de-selected. Bizarre..!

Catfish 1.4.2 - Unable to delete multiple files

Wondering if there's a fix for this bug that was apparently fixed in the 1.0.x series but still exists now. On searching for files with a certain name, on selecting them all, when you right click to delete all in one go, it fails. Is there an alternative for catfish, or a workaround? Occurs in LM 18...

Re: KDE,-- possibly best choice?

Sadly from this blog post by Martin Gräßlin it doesn't sound like the KDE team intends to restore the individual VD wallpapers & widgets in KDE Plasma 5. (search down to the section headed by "Applets per virtual desktop and dashboard") Thanks a lot for that very interesting link. From reading it i...

Re: Plasma 5.6 featureset & regressions

I have to admit that I have been disappointed by the kde 5 look and feel after trying kubuntu. The "flat look" madness is ridiculous. It has destroyed all the interface improvements made over the years. We'are going backward. People will come to their sense eventually. I am running 4 and it is so m...

Re: Number of Linux users is growing!

I've noticed there's been a gradual push to move away from Microsoft in some circles, and it's entirely their own doing. When you treat your customers with disdain and arrogance it's not surprising, the whole upgrade to Windows 10 debacle is another shameful episode here http://www.zdnet.com/article...

Re: What's so special about Plasma 5.x?

There are a good number of improvements coming in to Plasma 5.7 that make it more usable than the 5.5 base that LM 18 is apparently going to be based on. (I'd really like to see Mint KDE use 5.7 simply for the fact that it's a more polished system.) There are still features that are still pending ; ...

Re: systemd evil or not?

I don't have an issue with it per se, - other than the original request to make udev a dependency of systemd. That's my main concern, that it sets a precedent that ties in one component with another at such a basic level. If you want to read both sides of the story, read the response on it from one ...

Re: Mint 18 KDE - please make Plasma 5 work properly in Mint 18

It might make sense for Mint to wait for Plasma 5.7 to be released, but in the end this is down to how viable Clem & the team view KDE5 as a stable DE. So far it's still planned to be made de-facto given that KDE4 is no longer getting updates or fixes. I'm in two minds about whether to stay on 17.3 ...

Plasma 5.6 featureset & regressions

As far as I'm aware, Mint plans to migrate to Plasma 5.x for LM18. I've heard from a couple of places that there are some regressions, - for example something as simple as setting a different wallpaper and widget set per desktop won't be possible natively, which partly makes the point of multiple de...

I don't post much here, and that's probably a testament to how far Linux has come, but I wanted to share a small update after a few years of working with Linux Mint full-time. [FORUM] Usability options for visually impaired

Apologies if I've totally missed this, but there's usually an option at the bottom of phpBB forums that would allow you to choose a specific theme. Would it be possible to add a darker (for example Mint dark grey and green) theme for those of us who can't see well with high standard contrast? (as we...
