Re: Install KDE 5.9

This does not compute. Either you tested it and it works, or you didn't test it and thus can't confirm it works as the best way. Anyway, I had tested this approach on Kubuntu. I performed this at time when Neon had Plasma 5.7 (both for user and unstable repos), and it still works perfectly until no...

Re: Install KDE 5.9

I would suggest to use Neon user edition repository by performing the following: - create file with any name in directory '/etc/apt/preferences.d' with such content: Package: base-files Pin: release o=neon Pin-Priority: -10 this will prevent updating Mint version of 'base-files' package from Neon re...

Re: How to install Plasma 5.7 on Mint 18?

5.8.3 is now on landing, which, IIUC is better than staging. Built 5.8.4 and frameworks 5.28 last night, so will probably want to get that into -landing 1st. Plasma 5.8.4 makes no sense with absolutely out-of-date Applications 16.04.3, because one of the main Plasma features, the PIM events support...

Re: How to install Plasma 5.7 on Mint 18?

For everybody who complained about “Cannot add PPA: ”This PPA does not support xenial”” error for Neon repo. Here is Clem's response: "Edit by Clem: Ok, that’s not a PPA though. You wouldn’t add this one in the PPA tab, but in the Additional repositories tab instead". http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3145

Re: How to install Plasma 5.7 on Mint 18?

There are two possible ways (or their combination :) ). 1. You can add two additional repos from launchpad and update: 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/staging-plasma/ubuntu xenial main' 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/staging-kdeapplications/ubuntu xenial main' It is unofficial updates f...

Re: Linux Mint 18 KDE to use what version of KDE?

Per Clem's advice [http://segfault.linuxmint.com/2016/08/plasma-5-is-coming/] i'll keep fingers crossed that if we can't have 5.7.x immediately, upon arrival of Mint 18 KDE5, that we at least get the update to it asap afterwards. You can get 5.7.2 right now by adding unofficial backport repos: 'deb...

Re: Mint 18 KDE problems

4 Extremely low volume on KDE as opposed to same volume level setting as Cinnamon. Having to keep the volume level at 100% on my laptop all the time. This has been an ongoing problem within KDE for many years. Why can’t there be a way to increase the volume above 100% as in Cinnamon? This alone mak...

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” KDE – BETA Release

Congratulations and thank you for great job! The only noticeably and irritating bug which I found: the Mint Software Manager uses the ugly Breeze-style icons despite I switched to the Oxygen icon theme just immediately after booting (and made logoff - login after that, of course). I very hope that i...

Re: Linux Mint 18 KDE to use what version of KDE?

Interesting news from DistroWatch.com : The Netrunner distribution has discontinued its Kubuntu-based edition and replaced it with a new edition, called Maui, which uses KDE neon as a base. The first release of the new edition, Netrunner 1 "Maui", is built on a long term support (LTS) base and will ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 KDE to use what version of KDE?

If Clem does switch to Plasma then I wont be using it. Mint 17,3 has support until April 2019, by this time it is quite possible there will be new desktops or changes made to current KDE Plasma. I afraid it is not up to Clem unless he will decide to port KDE 4 to Xenial codebase by efforts of Mint ...

Did you try choosing "Oxygen" Plasma theme and "Air" desktop theme? And switching off the "Background contrast" in desktop effects.

Re: Upgrading KDE in Mint 13 KDE

I think that upgrading the entire distribution instead of upgrading KDE resembles cure of dandruff with guillotine. :) Mint 13 works perfectly with KDE 4.14.2, it is supported until 2017, and in 2016 the new LTS Mint will be released. So, IMO, upgrading KDE on Mint 13 will be the best decision. Some...

Re: Upgrading KDE in Mint 13 KDE

I think it is a good idea to update KDE in Mint 13 to 4.14.2 anyway (4.14.3 is not available in ppa yet). It is quite safe. The main reason for such decision is that KDE 4.8.* has one extremely annoying and disgusting bug: the "Shutdown/Logoff/Reboot" dialog causes freezing of all interface for ~ ha...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I voted for KDE, because it is only environment in the entire Linux world, which seems to be completely acceptable for me. The all Gnome versions, forks and clones cause me feeling discomfort. I very hope for common sense of Linux Mint team, and timely support of latest KDE versions.
