Re: Linux Mint Debian 201204 released!

...I always look at CompizConfig program. It never seems to do anything useful (i.e. work) and most of the settings appear to be for people who have nothing better to do than fiddle around. Maybe this could be an optional download - I can't imagine who would bother. I use compizconfig to easily set...

Re: Ideas for Cinnamon applets / extensions

Integration with Hamster / Time Tracker applet. Alarm clock / countdown timer / stopwatch I created a new timer applet here with countdown. The app supports notifications: onscreen message, confirmation dialog, play audio file, minutes label in panel. http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/vi...

Re: menu is so slow to display

I've been thinking about forking classic menu into a native cinnamon applet. I have an applet I am working on now but when I am done I will look into it. One idea would be to have Cinnamon build an XML file of the menu on startup and save it somewhere. Then when the user clicks the menu button it wo...

Re: Ideas for Cinnamon applets / extensions

I could use a pop-up filebrowser that expands with each subfolder like the file-browser-applet for gnome 2.x I coach high school debaters and they need to be able to access and easily sort through hundreds of different files organized in various folder structures very quickly and efficiently. I'm a...

Instead of logging in/out use Cinnamon restart. Alt+F2 then type r. Or use Panel > Settings > Troubleshoot > Restart Cinnamon.

Re: menu is so slow to display

You could create your own little mini menu using this applet. It will be much faster since it only displays one list. Just put all your favorite stuff on one list. To make the regular menu go faster turn off all the desktop effects. There is not a lot more you can do to make it faster since it has a...

Re: Unofficial wiki for Cinnamon developers

I think the wiki is a great idea. I was looking around for documentation and I found older Gnome shell stuff. It would be helpful to post code examples of all the applet controls/methods. I get a lot of information about what methods are possible reading Gnome devs documents: http://developer.gnome....

Copy your applets to ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets and then add them using cinnamon settings.

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I was beta testing Ubuntu 12.04 from the alpha releases to the final. I filed so many bugs with Unity problems. All the testing drove me to Mint. I needed something simpler that I could pound on all day and get work done. Unity was slowing me down to much. So i kept Ubuntu and added the PPA for Cinn...

Re: help with a cinnamon applet (custom menu) development

Still looking for the way how to create sub-menus and storing the data for the menu entries outside of the javascript. You can access file data outside an applet in a separate file. I don't think there is an established API yet that reads/writes properties. Look at the example code below for the my...
