Re: Why do Windows users get such a bad rap?

I'm impressed with your reply! :D Sure, there are Fedora users insomuch that yes... problem between keyboard and chair.... can create issues. Yes, it is platform dependent... but let's take a moment to look at the differences between problems. The Windows user can't figure out how to print while the...

Re: Why do Windows users get such a bad rap?

No, I would be adequately contented if you could answer my questions. :) Ok, I'll play. I worked IT for many, many years. I dealt with people who used Windows, Linux, and Apple. I started my career working in tech support. And, yes the Windows users were the biggest dumbasses of the bunch. I am sur...

Re: Why do Windows users get such a bad rap?

Don't worry, no-one here expected you to actually think about why you were wrong. It was not meant to make you fall into anything, it was just a try to make you consider. A pity I failed! Now I will never get to know why I am less smart than a Linux-only user. :( (Hint: Don't troll if you can't tak...

Re: Why do Windows users get such a bad rap?

Why are you.... a BSD user.... never mind. No it's not trolling. It's actually quite true. Never did I say I was an Apple supporter - I assume..... why are you here again? BSD... Linux Mint... anyway.... You're right - there is no OS that is absolute in being free from viruses... On second thought a...

Re: Why do Windows users get such a bad rap?

I can think of many reasons why Windows users get a bad rap. First - they can be lazy. They know there is an alternative out there that will free them of viruses, malware, security breaches, and from the wallet draining software applications they are enslaved to. But, they won't take the time to res...

gnome-shell atolm theme not showing

So, decided to play around a little with gnome 3 - personalize my desktop. Installed gnome-tweak-tool Installed the extensions Then did a little search and found some great themes. Downloaded the themes and installed them with gnome tweak tool. The problem is there is an option to change the theme, ...

Re: Cinnamon Themes

I'm really not that all impressed with Cinnamon. I don't dislike it - it is fast and sleek. But, IMO it's not really all that easily customizable. Sure, you can change themes - but does that do? Changes the color of your Menu... not a whole lot else. That's not customization to me. Compiz and Cairo-...

Touch Pad Mouse

Not sure if it is a bug with Mint 13 or a Cinnamon issue - but Running Mint 13 on an ASUS laptop. The pad mouse has a finger scroll on the right side (you can slide your finger down to scroll). It works perfectly fine with a web browser, but doesn't work at all with folders or directories. Not a &qu...

Re: Making bootable UBS Help

Indeed - I think I will take a look at the battery... it's time I pull the back off for a quick cleaning anyway.

Yep - I got Mint 13 installed on the laptop without a hitch. Even got my primary game up going (Everquest II) without a single problem. This OS is just amazing.

Re: What makes mint better?

What turned me off was the disregard for the end user - from Canonical. To me, they are using the Ubuntu community to test their Tablet / Smart Phone OS. Canonical is a company, no doubts about that, which means that in the end they have to care about their bottom line (making money)... again nothin...

Re: Making bootable UBS Help

OK let me walk you through the whole story... I think I might have left a couple of things out. I decided to learn something new with Linux - so I decided to make a bootable install of Mint on a thumb drive that I could use on my laptop - the ASUS. I have two systems. The laptop and a home built gam...

Re: Making bootable UBS Help

Thanks for the tips all. I have tried the suggestions listed about, but still to no avail. Odd thing is that I even made a few bootable disks with Gentoo, Fedora, and a few other Linux distros. None of them will boot - even with the boot settings listing the CD ROM as first. I think this is an ASUS ...

What exactly does "based of Ubuntu" mean?

So, out of simply being bored I installed Oracle's VM Virtual Box and down loaded the ISO images for Fedora, Ubuntu, Gentoo, Debian, and Slackware... played around with them and found that I just like Mint the best. It was the easiest to install, has been pretty much the easiest to work with. I know...

Re: Making bootable UBS Help

Thanks for the adivce.... tried it - still no go. I went ahead and put Ubuntu 12.04 on it. Actually, impressed with how smoothly it went. I hate Unity, but I am amazed at how easy Ubuntu installed - no tweaking, no extra work - just bam done. Anyway, I will keep Mint on my desktop and maybe mess aro...

Making bootable UBS Help

Hello all, Been trying to get working install of Mint on a UBS stick to use with my laptop. So far no good. I have an ASUS G60V gaming laptop with Windows 7. I downloaded Lisa. I used an 8 gig thumb drive. I used "Startup Disk Creator" to installed the version on the thumb drive. Plugged i...

Hey all, N00b question here, but I am in dire need. I have a presentation to give tomorrow and I can't for the life of me find a converter that converts downloaded video (of various formats to MPEG). I have tried: Winff, Vidshot, DeVeDe,,, NONE of these have a way to covert to MPEG. I am creating th...
