My guess would be what you are seeing is cinnamon building thumb-nail icons for the files.

Launch: system monitor Psensor Nemo Firefox Chrome I use FF and Chrome at the same time. Chrome lives on my left monitor and Firefox lives on my right monitor. I use Chrome just for media playback, 90% Netflix, Youtube and Amazon Prime. I use Firefox for my other browsing. I am hard on a browser, lo...

Re: If Microsoft had adopted Unix would they rule the world?

If Microsoft had adopted Unix way back in the early 80's they they would have never gotten popular because the licensing fees on Unix back then could be as high as $10,000 a seat in a time when ten grand would buy you a new car, two if you went cheap. And developing a full blown Unix takes many year...

Re: How far away are we from a computer that talks and listens and learns.

I don't think we are more than ten years away from a Star Trek computer voice command. The Hal 9000 won't ever be built if we are smart because we should not build machines with a sense of self preservation. I like the picture of computers Star Trek shows us. If Hal was in the Star Trek universe, Da...

Re: Facebook Ad Blocking Techniques and Strategies

I use AdBlock Origin and Privacy Badger. AdBlock Origin blocks many ads on FB, not "suggested Posts" but everything else and Privacy Badger blocks FB's tracking cookies and beacons so FB cannot track you when you are off their site. AdBlock Origin and Privacy Badger are available for both ...

Re: Adobe Flash is Dead

My big beef with Flash was the flood of horrible, all flash websites that hit the web in the late 90s and into the '00s. Lots of you young 'uns 'round here are to young to remember this appalling period on the web. Then there was the way Flash was deliberately insecure. Adobe has admitted they knew ...

Gives you cancer, though. Tar, just like tobacco. All smoke kills. Your assertion is not supported by research. As a matter of fact there is some evidence that smoking pot might actually lower your chances of getting lung cancer. Sorry mate, but there is ample research support: https://ww...

Re: Apple's iMac-SOLVED

Get your wife the Mac. I used Macs for 25 years, Linux Mint for the last 8 years and I like Mint but there is practically no interoperability between iOS devices and Mint (or any Linux), no syncing, no loading music from one device to another. Basically her idevices will be orphaned and she will bla...

Re: "A" Solution to "The Alcohol Problem"

I quit drinking when I quit smoking because drinking makes me crave a smoke and drinking also weakens my will power and judgement about stupid things like smoking. Now when I want a nice relaxing substance I smoke some pot. It is relaxing, a good pain killer and no icky side effects like drinking has.

Not a chance. I will not be a participant in the Google take over of the web. I use a browser that is built by people who believe in freedom online: Firefox. Anything Chrome or Chromium based is a win for Google and when Google wins, we all loose.

Re: Wow! Just swallowed some CBD oil. Anyone else uses this beneficial supplement?

I would use CBD except I don't trust the supplement market. At least in the USA supplements like CBD oil are unregulated almost completely and there is no standards for purity or dosages. I could urinate in a bottle, slap a CBD oil label on it and I would be legal if I added a microgram or 2 of CBD ...

Re: Tips for keeping Linux mint fast and maintenance

Linux generally does not require maintenance in the way Windows and OSX do. Linux does not suffer Windows fragmentation and bit rot issues or OSX's file system degradation problems.

Re: Who can maintain Linux for my wife

This will not be a popular opinion, but my advice would be to get a Windows 10 computer and get her used to it. Much easier to find/get support for Windows 10 than Linux. It's what I would do, indeed I already keep one Windows 10 computer on hand for my wife to use. Edit: I understand where you are...

This is good news. Little Snitch is fantastic on OSX and if this developer can come close to duplicating how powerful yet easy to use little snitch is it will be a great addition to Linux.

Re: File manager that shows total size of subdirs in detail view?

I have looked and as far as I can tell that out of all the many file managers available for Linux not a single one has this obvious and basic feature. It is one thing that has frustrated me with Linux. Before I switched to Linux I was a long time Mac user and the MacOS file manager has had this feat...

I have just left my system as is for now. While it is not exactly what I want I can access 18.3, 19.1 and Windows7 whenever I want and I have been busy/lazy lately and have not felt like messing with it. I am going to end up starting from scratch because I have decided I gave Windows too much disk s...
