Re: How to boot LMDE on an UEFI-based pc?

Hi srs5694, Well, I have installed Manjaro 0.8.5.2 in one GPT partitioned disk of my computer, and I successfully use UEFI boot and rEFInd. What should I do to install in the same disk also LMDE (or another Linux distribution) without wiping anything there up? Should I prepare a second UEFI System ...

Re: Loose desktop after Ctrl/Alt/Fn to console in LM15Mate

Hello, Lewis. When going back from the console 1 to 6 try <Alt><F7>. And in case this just gives you a black screen, then try <Alt><F8> instead. - Half of my Mint/Ubuntu systems will have the graphical desktop on tty8. Therefore I have to use <Alt><F8> to get back there. Kind regards, Karl Karl Sor...

Loose desktop after Ctrl/Alt/Fn to console in LM15Mate

Hope I am in the right sub-forum; and *yes* I have searched forums. Just installed LM15 Mate on a pure EFI box - with ATI video in case that matters:- $ inxi -G Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Wrestler [Radeon HD 7310] X.Org: 1.13.3 drivers: ati, radeon (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) Res...

Re: Installing LMDE with EFI support

Hi, I tried installing LMDE with EFI boot but didn't succeed. Only latest Debian (Beta4) installer seems to provide that functionality. Now I'm running Arch without problems but I like LMDE more. So my question is: Is there a way to make LMDE work with EFI (GPT) or if I should wait for a new releas...

Re: How to boot LMDE on an UEFI-based pc?

Thanks for the suggestion I'll give it a go and see if it works, for what it's worth I just tried booting the regular LM14 and it does bott just fine, I think they just haven't implemented that code into the debian version or something like that .. Anyone hear/read whether or not EFI/UEFI support w...

Re: Problems with dual booting GPT/UEFI and 2 disks [solved]

David [rant] Why is it that Mint can determine that Win8 is also installed and knows where the UEFI partition is located. Why can't it offer some help and install in dual boot correctly without falling over. Honestly guys, the future of Linux is in folk being fed up with Win8 and probably all future...

Re: Inkscape install fails for lack of perlmagick [CLOSED]

This problem has simply 'gone away'. I re-tried much later installing Inkscape & it worked fine, so this dependancy matter must have been sorted (or sorted itself) behind the scenes.

Re: editing the xfce menu

Okay, I've found an easy way to edit XFCE's main menu using a little app called LXMenuEditor (LXME). It works just fine with XFCE's menu too! ... Cheers, Ander This follows the line that I myself posted earlier in the thread (without the nitty-gritty). I congratulate you on a super response, which ...

Re: Keyboard shortcut to raise the menu? [SOLVED]

Palo - thanks for this intriguing find. This key *looks* like a menu key, anyway. What it brings up is the *Desktop* menu, same as right-clicking on the desktop. True, that takes you to the *applications* section of the main menu, which is certainly worth knowing. But it does not include all the mai...

Re: Keyboard shortcut to raise the menu?

Thank you Jamesc359 for your helpful reply. I have not noticed the magic application-ID xfce4-popup-applicationsmenu you cited. BTAIM, when I do Settings->Keyboard->Application shortcuts, 'xfce4-popup-applicationsmenu' is not in the short list of existing commands i.e. not a question of re-assigning...

Keyboard shortcut to raise the menu? [SOLVED]

It seems one cannot have a keyboard shortcut to raise the application menu. (Ideally, the 'windows' key alone if you have one; but that is usually designated a 'meta-key' in Linux, insisting on another key in combination. Grrr). I have looked in the forum & the Xfce documentation, but find no me...

Re: editing the xfce menu

PMFJI and I hope I have not misunderstood or overlooked something. Might as well use this live thread to air some installation issues. * That enigmatic login screen from the live CD was a pain. Someone said it was a bug. Updates give errs re 'gtype' & 'assert-multi-arch'

After a huge update (1350 files) messed my favourite LMDE/LXDE installation, I re-installed it and am trying the 1000+ updates via Update Manager in small bites. But every one terminates "Update not complete" with the following example errors, of which: Trying to register gtype '...Flags' ...

To give hope to others in a similar mess, I have hopefully SOLVED my no-sound problem by scouring several threads on the same subject, and removing pulseaudio as described sudo apt-get remove pulsaudio then re-booting. For good measure, in VLC according to other advice, I went to Tools-Preferences-Au...

Me too: NO SOUND on a newly installed LinuxMint Debian, and the only problem that has hit me. 'Card' is on-board SIS (according to Mixer: SI7012) which has worked on all sorts of Linux's without doing anything . Mixer icon in system tray offers all sorts of choices which I do not understand, and the...
