Email account disappeared.

A few days ago, my wife told me that her email account in Thunderbird just disappeared. I checked, and she was right. Her email account in Thunderbird was gone. Mine was there and fully functional, but hers was free electrons, floating about, unattached to anything earthly. As it was late in the eve...

Re: Cross Over Linux on Linux Mint 13.1.3

@Andy MH; I only use Quicken 98 with Crossover 18.3. Yes, CrossOver 18.3 and QW 98 are really old, but so am I! Newer does not guarantee better. It's just newer. @Kadaitcha Man; Thanks for your reply. It's good to know! For what it's worth, we still drive a 2011 Chevy HHR. It still runs well, we get...

Cross Over Linux 13.1.3 on Linux Mint

I plan to upgrade Linux Mint 18.3 to Linux Mint 20. Are there any known issues running CrossOver Linux 13.1.3 on Linux Mint 20?

Re: how do I remove old, unused kernels

Ahh! Thank you, all, for your replies. Getting old ain't for sissies! I knew the answer, as they usually are, was quite simple. But, as I said, this old grey matter, some days, just doesn't work as well as I think it used to. But, then, my wife once asked me, "Did your mind ever work as you thi...

Grub-legacy

I know, I know. Some might, with un-abashed annoyance suggest that I get with the times, ...... etc, etc, etc! Yet, I will post this regardless of the annoyed responses. I've been using Linux of one distribution or another since about 1998 or so. I settled on Linux Mint a few years ago, and currentl...

Re: Thunderbird misbehaving badly.

Thank you for your response, LogMan. Yes, that was the first place I looked, and returned to a few times again, to no avail. I uninstalled Thunderbird, including system files and everything. Then I re-installed Thunderbird and I'm still having the same goofy problems. I've been using Thunderbird alm...

Thunderbird misbehaving badly.

I'm using Thunderbird 60.7.0. on Linux Mint 18.3, "Sylvia 64 bit," Kernel 4.15.0-generic X86_64 and MATE 1.18.0 Ever since the fairly recent upgrade to Thunderbird, wherein a few new folders were added, e.g.Gmail, drafts, Sent Mail, All Mail, Junk, etc., I've noticed that the 'All Mail' fo...

Re: How do I get wine-stable to install an exe program?

If you don't mind paying for a commercial version of wine, CrossOver Office by Codeweavers is excellent. There are versions you can download for a trial period to see if you like it. I've been running MS Office 2010 and Quicken 2009 for years on CrossOver. My version is quite old, so I'll probably h...

Re: (solved)update manager problem(solved)

Oh this can very well happen. Blacklist, levels and other filter settings in Update Manager's preferences aside, which are all under the control of you as the user, Update Manager also contains functionality for the Mint team to block certain updates which we determined to be harmful for your syste...

Re: Desktop keeps freezing up

It definitely sounds more like a hardware issue than a software issue. There's a problem I have found on dozens of laptops, where the user places it directly down on the desk or table. The cooling fan on most of these machines is on the bottom. The poor thing can't breath. First, turn your machine o...

As I said, posting back about this. And you were completely right. Ya dun good, Pilgrum. Ya dun real good. I re-enabled PolicyKit Authentication Agent in Mint menu > Startup Applications and went to bed. This morning, after the machine booted up, I opened Update Manager and clicked on 'Install Updat...

Re: update manager problem

Hey, gm10, thanks for the tip. And you were right, it was disabled. Of course, I'll have to wait till Update Manager has updates before I can test it. But, you are probably right. It almost always is something small and obscure that can cause us to chase our tails until we just stop and ask for help...

(solved) update manager problem (solved)

The link to update manager will launch and show the updates, etc. But, when I click on 'Install Updates' nothing happens. However, command line does work, e.g. "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade #-y". Synaptic also works fine. I'm running on Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia 64-bit, with Linu...

Multiple instances of Thunderbird

I've seen and fixed some strange problems over the years. A good many of the problems, I admit, were self-inflicted. But this one has me scratching my beard a lot. I have 2 750G hard drives, and 1 500G hard drive, which I use to test other Linux releases. I clone the System files weekly, and clone t...

That would explain why I haven't found it!! I guess I will have to find some patience, and exercise it.

Thanks,

Re: What would determine whether to use X or Y theme?

Thanks, JosephM, for the reply. It is, then, as I suspected, a choice in aesthetics, not a requirement based on hardware. This is very good to know. On another, related topic, I have been looking for a Mint19 Beta download link. But I've been unable to find it. I like to install a new release first ...
