Re: Website access

Can you paste in the actual output for nslookup? I want to check the IP's returned and see what they actually point to. It would in this case, I think, be helpful to have the output from traceroute. This will show us the path your internet provider tries to use to get to whatever server nslookup ret...

Re: Website access

Did you try running an nslookup on youtube.com under mint? If that fails, I would suspect something to do with the internal DNS function in NetworkManager. If it succeeds, I would be interested in seeing the output from traceroute which I can walk you through if you like.

Re: <SOLVED> Long boot up times, fstab and boot volume conflicts

I was reading this and wondered what udev.settle was about, and found this helpful answer on AskUbuntu that explains what it is and why you are not having a problem after disabling it:

Re: can't boot LinuxMint after Windows Update KB5012170

Well, I had some time to just download the latest version of Mint and try that. It seems that Grub has been updated in the new version and now passes the SecureBoot check. It seems weird to me that no one else is talking about it, but apparently it's not difficult to fix.

[Solved] can't boot LinuxMint after Windows Update KB5012170

I work at a computer shop, and we make extensive use of Linux bootable flash drives (currently Mint 20.2) and PxE booting. I noticed recently that all of a sudden, I can't get anything Linux that we have to boot on any machine with SecureBoot enabled. We've been busy, so I haven't had a chance to tr...

Apparent apparmor profile bug affecting `man`

I work at a computer shop, and we have several LinuxMint installations bootable via PXE. Yesterday I set up a new one with Ulyana Mate edition. I usually just set up a virtual machine in Virtual Box, do the setup, then copy everything over to a new NFS export. Everything worked great in Virtual Box,...

Re: LiveCD startup and user creation process

In my case, I'm making a recovery medium. I load up lots of tools (including in-house stuff) for diagnosing pc issues, recovering files, etc. I just wondered if, while I was on the topic, someone knew how the user setup process worked in case I ran into something I couldn't figure out how to change....

Re: LiveCD startup and user creation process

I did eventually find what I needed to change. I wanted to have a Firefox profile loaded from /etc/skel, and to undo the mint alterations in /usr/lib/firefox/distribution/distribution.ini. I added/removed the content in the squashfs, but it still loaded the mint-altered Firefox profile. I had though...

LiveCD startup and user creation process

I'm working on a customized version of the 19.1 x86_64 Mate livecd for use at work. I've been able to make most of the edits that I've wanted, but I am to the point now where I think I need to tweak a few things about the process in which it creates the "mint" user and sets up the config. ...

Seems to have worked. Thanks! I guess I didn't realize Sylvia was on systemd; I don't mess with the startup much.

[Solved] Prevent setting hardware clock on shutdown/restart

I've got a PXE setup running Linux Mint Sylvia. Often, we boot this on machines running Windows. In the past (e.g., with Qiana) we haven't had any problem with time after setting the Linux to use localtime instead of UTC, but Sylvia still seems to be setting the hardware clock in a way that makes th...

Re: Geforce 210 HDMI audio

I went ahead and bought the card, so to answer my own question it works pretty well. I had to play around with the settings a bit (it listed more than one HDMI audio output port under "hardware" in the sound settings) and do a couple of reboots to see if they stuck. I got it working the wa...

Re: Geforce 210 HDMI audio

Right. I realize I'll have to install the NVidia binary driver. I was just looking to see if someone is already using this card with HDMI audio and can verify it's a simple as installing the driver and picking the right output device in the sound settings. In the 2 year old forum posts I was seeing,...

Geforce 210 HDMI audio

I'm looking for an affordable graphics card that will work will outputing audio to HDMI. I've seen the GeForce 210 and its siblings recommended in other topics and on other sites, but it looks like a couple of years ago it took some tweaking to get HDMI audio working. Does anybody have experience wi...

Re: Nadia x86_64 - resolvconf not using DNS server from DHCP

I did some manual digging and found out that things aren't quite what they seem on the surface. I'd noticed that dnsmasq was enabled on localhost by default and was the default DNS server. A bit weird, I thought, but whatever. Well, it turns out that this dnsmasq local-dns server is actually relayin...

Re: Nadia x86_64 - resolvconf not using DNS server from DHCP

I understand that things must be saved to a config file to be perisisted. The difference I'm seeing is that in past versions of Ubuntu/Mint, when getting a DNS address from DHCP I'd see this in /etc/resolv.conf (this is copied verbatim from a Linux Mint 12 system) # Generated by NetworkManager names...

Re: Nadia x86_64 - resolvconf not using DNS server from DHCP

Thanks, but I'm still wondering why the DNS server provided by DHCP is not automatically entered into /etc/resolv.conf the way it used to be. The link you gave described setting up a static IP address on a PC formally configured for DHCP, which is not what I'm doing here.

[solved] Nadia - resolvconf not using DNS server from DHCP

I can see in my NetworkManager status window that DHCP has correctly sent my pc a DNS server address, in this case 192.168.1.1. The problem is resolveconf isn't putting that into my /etc/resolv.conf for some reason. Even after running `sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf` then rebooting as suggested in...
