Re: Copy Todays date, to paste elsewhere.

Thanks, Vincent...I'll give a try to the first suggestion. The second one is too strong, I thin.

One possibility, nice, would be if scripts with suffix .bash or something like that, were executed by default.

Re: Home folder rightclick on item pop menu can not show all

Thanks, Vincent.

I'll try clicking higher, next time, and I hope the build teams do come up with some good improvement.

Re: Copy Todays date, to paste elsewhere.

Thanks Vincent, I just did it again, and it now does work very well. The little flaw, actually gave me the benefit of investigating ways on the issue, and I did get a little solution that works when I push the scroll bar down. But that way, the date captured is replaced as soon as I highlite somethi...

Home folder rightclick on item pop menu can not show all

Hi everyone, I have encountered this little problem Mint Lisa 64, At desktop, I click on Home folder, which it does. It shows its contents, folders, basically. I Right-Click at the Desktop folder (or others) and a menu pops up that starts with "open" and has quite a few options. However, that menu i...

Click on executable text file; run it with no dialog show?

I would like to know if it is possible, and how, to have a shortcut icon in the desktop that triggers a batch file (executable text file) as soon as I click the icon (without the appearing of the Dialog that asks if I want to run, display it, or Cancel).

Thanks for any help.

Re: Copy Todays date, to paste elsewhere.

Thanks Vincent, I did exactly as prescribed, and what's copied is not the date, but the following: #!/bin/bash date +'%A, %B %d %Y' | xclip Dis I miss something, or is there something else to do? (I checked the software manager and xclip IS installed). Also, any way that I don't have to chose "run",...

Re: Number of work spaces in Mint

Thanks remoulder for the very clear explanation. Now I get it.

However, can one install Compiz and get contiguous spaces, as one could in say, Ubuntu 7?

Not that I want to, right now, but if possible, would certainly consider it.

Thanks.

Number of work spaces in Mint

I've noticed the workspaces have increased by themselves a few times, from two to thre, and even to four. Can someone please explain the mechanism for this, if this is so, or to explain how this is? Also, I am in Mint Lisa from having been in Ubuntu-7 since its time. In that one, I had four spaces a...

Re: Copy Todays date, to paste elsewhere.

Thanks for the suggestions, Vincent. I tried Mate, and it does allow copy the date. I believe that's what I had in my previous Ubuntu version 7 which I removed to put mint. However, I like mint so much better than Mate, that I'll stay with the default Mint lisa way. In fact, I am toying with the ide...

Re: Caracter Map does not include Spanish?

I have a solution consiting of a text file that includes the ones I need.

Thanks!

Re: Caracter Map does not include Spanish?

Hi and thank you Danko,

I think Spanish SOULD be included in the character map.

I am amazed that character maps for so many dialects are included (many seem strange) and not one for Spanish.

I still need to have English keyboard, but I need Spanish characters ocassionally.

Re: Disk management GUI? (to check available space)

There is a newer command called inxi that you run from a console. It is not graphical as you wish, but it is advisable and not too hard to use. It is an information shower of what your PC contains. As usual, ctrl-alt-t pops the terminal. In it, type inxi -h then "h" parameter is "help" and it is str...

Re: After Mint 12 install, XP won't boot

Hi, With Boot-Repair if chose FIX MBR, what that does is put the MBR "standard" which means there will be no GRUB. Partitions are not deleted, and therefore the booting is automatically to the operating system that is in the FIRST partion. That will certainly boot to Windows XP when the pc is turned...

Re: After Mint 12 install, XP won't boot

You might want to try Boot-Repair. It's free, creates a booting CD and can re-install GRUB, and also fix the MBR, which would boot Windows right away. I also has other capabilities that I have not really tried. But for me it is a favorite, since I have gone through quite a few similar cases. P.S. My...

Re: Copy Todays date, to paste elsewhere.

Just occurred to me to check; on Linux Mint 11 (Gnome 2) you could right-click the calendar on the panel and select to copy the date or time from the context menu. On Linux Mint 12, with Cinnamon at least, this functionality is lacking. Perhaps MATE does have this function still. I installed 2 days...
