Re: Linux Mint support on Lenovo Thinkpad t490s?

@ deepakdeshp sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but I tried on my old laptop to use live usb, everything worked fine. Installed Linux, and wifi dropped randomly, good way to test but no 100% guarantee :(

Re: Can you use the same My Passport drive in Linux and Windows?

Shouldn't be a problem, I have several, one I used only today to transfer files was FAT32, no issue on windows or Linux, must be another issue. Can you see the drive in GParted?

Re: Record Vinyl

FWIW, coming in a little late on this discussion, I have recorded vinyl via the amp headphone connection to my laptop and used audacity, works a charm. I tend to be lazy and let the whole side record, then edit it into separate tacks, again using audacity I tend to save as flac and if required for t...

Re: How do you convert to mp3

FWIW, for ripping I use K3B, but it's a bit overkill for just ripping CD's
A|nd, converted me to Asunder (pardon the pun) looks OK, will try it out some more

Re: Fairly new user - best thing about Linux Mint

Tried Win10 before coming back to Mint, found that 10 updates could literally freeze the machine until complete, not good. Mint just rocks :D

Re: Evolution Mail Does not like gMail

FWIW, I migrated from Thunderbird as it 'lost' my passwords. When I setup Evolution, all I did for gmail was to enter my gmail address and it went off and sorted everything else out, only thing I then needed was to enter password on first run Not sure if anyone here can shed any light on the changin...

Thanks xenopeek, I don't get that option in First Steps :-(
But, I went into the software manager and searched for mint-meta-codecs and apparently it's already installed :-)

[SOLVED] 'Extras'

This isn't stupid, but may be a little dumb :D
Under Ubuntu / Xubuntu (when I used them) one of the first things i did was install the relevant restricted-extras, but there isn't one for Mint. Can I use Ubuntu as Mint is based on that (much slicker though)

Nah, he's already claimed there's no data, so wouldn't be an issue..
"No sensitive data".
Then he needs to do what I first suggested, fire up a live session and back it up :D

Sorry buddy, missed that one important word my bad

Try installing Mint onto the whole drive
Don't try this at home if there's important data on the drive.

Re: Has my hdd malfunctioned???

BTW, have you tried booting windows in safe mode?

If you can, open a terminal as administrator (search for terminal, then right click run as) then run sfc /scannow

Re: Has my hdd malfunctioned???

If there's no data, and you're sure the hdd is bust (I wouldn't be though) then stop wasting time on it and replace, as absque fenestris said new sdd are not expensive
