Account Login Screen Mouse Issue

I have recently updated a family member's laptop from Cinnamon 17.3 to Cinnamon 19.3. The only problem that I had is the touch pad mouse does not work correctly on the account login screen. I can move the mouse around using the touchpad but can't double-click on anything by tapping. The only way to ...

Re: Questions on Upgrade

I finally updated my family members computer from 17.3 to 19.3 and it went smoothly. I was able to format the root partition and mount the existing /home partition with no loss of user accounts or data. The only problem that I have is the touch pad mouse does not work correctly on the account login ...

Re: Questions on Upgrade

Thanks for the quick reply. Regarding question 1, I'm assuming that when I run the install, I enter the primary user name and password exactly as it is currently. I have the user names but not the passwords for the other two users on the system. How do I create these other users? Also, is there any ...

Questions on Upgrade

I'm administrating a Toshiba laptop running Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa) for a family member. The system storage is a 250GB Samsung EVO 850 SSD which was configured as: 30GB root, 8GB swap, 202GB Home and 10GB free space. I'd like to upgrade the system to Linux Mint 19 and have a few questions: 1. Is upgr...

Re: Problem with Held Packages

I ended up formatting the partition and doing a clean install. Hopefully, 17.2 is even better than 17.1!

Re: Problem with Held Packages

I tried upgrading via the terminal yesterday and it appeared to work yet it still boots into 17.1.

Re: Problem with Held Packages

That command didn’t help. Output was "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded". What was it supposed to do?

Problem with Held Packages

I am dual booting Win 7 with LM 17.1 Cinnamon 64 bit and I love LM! Rarely boot into Win 7 and hate it when I do. Here's the problem. Went to update from 17.1 to 17.2 using the update manager and get to a screen where it wants me to install missing mint-meta-cinnamon package but it fails when I try ...

Re: Bash Operator Question

Thanks. That pointed me in the right direction. In a script, are '.' and source interchangeable? Or, are there subtle differences that a newbie like me won't understand?

Bash Operator Question

I'm trying to teach myself Bash scripting and added the following lines to the /.bashrc file to reference my alias file: if [ -e "$HOME/.bash_aliases" ] ; then . $HOME/.bash_aliases fi Although it works fine, I don't understand what the purpose of the period is at the beginning of the second line. T...

Re: Nemo File Manager Question

Yes, but in my case, I deleted a log file that was being written to. If I had a confirmation, I probably would have caught it but, maybe I wouldn't have.

Re: Nemo File Manager Question

Pjotr, I kind of agree with you but there are instances where I don't want this to happen. Just recently I was running a test using a continuous ping and writing the response to a text file. I inadvertently deleted the output file while the command was still running thereby halting my test. In this ...

Nemo File Manager Question

I'm running LM 17.1 Cinnamon 64-bit which uses Nemo version 2.4.5 file manager. If I select a file in Nemo and press the delete key, it moves the file into the trash without confirmation although in settings I selected to ask for confirmation.

How do I fix this behaviour? Is this a bug?

Re: Problems with Mintupdate and Synaptic

richyrich, Before I read your response, I stumbled upon the software sources window and changed the location of the base (trusty) mirror to a local (and much faster) source. Then, I found a button about clearing the cache. That seems to have done the job. I did, however, take your suggestion and cli...

I'm running Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64 bit with kernel 3.13.0-39-generic and am having a problem with both MintUpdate and Synaptic package manager. Re: Update Manager Question

I unchecked "Always show security updates" and it worked, but why? The level 4 and 5 updates that were listed weren't all security updates.
