Re: Browsers constantly crashing
Ever since I updated to Firefox 50 (and the gstreamer updates), Firefox locks up randomly on me. I've started using Chrome. Something in the recent updates broke video, as it only locks up on pages with videos. If you have an nVidia, drop back to 304 or 340. 367 is a mess, and nVidia knows it. They...

Will there be an 18.1 release?
I did a clean install last week, and I had over 400 updates waiting. Will they release an updated .iso at some point, to prevent this?

Way to turn off mate-panel?
I'm using Cairo Dock, which works great. However, mate-panel seems to require at least one panel being active. Is there a way to turn it off? It's not listed in the startup programs (probably it's part of the generic package). Can I uninstall it with no consequences, as it does have dependencies?

Sun unix keyboard
I got a new Sun Microsystems Type 6 USB Unix-layout keyboard. However, when I plugged it in, Mint does not see it. I checked keyboard layouts, and Sun is not included in the supported list. Has anyone gotten one of these keyboards to work? If so, how did you do it? Thanks!

Why is cowsay a dependency of MintAssistant?
I was going to delete cowsay, because I don't care for it, but it says it is a dependency for mintassistant and mintassistant-gnome, and those will also be deleted.

help with install of new cursor theme ?
I downloaded a nice cursor theme off of gnome-look. However, I'm not exactly sure which folder I should put this in, so that Gnome will see it. Any help would be appreciated.

How do I switch the google bar to go to normal google page?
The Mint Google search results are pretty gimped. I'd like to go to the normal google results after typing in a search on the bar at the top of Firefox. Normal results just let me click a link to go from sites to pics to whatever. The Linux Mint search results do not.

Re: No wireless
The open source madwifi drivers aren't working in the 2.6.24 kernel. I just helped someone with the same card: http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=14386 I tried this fix. It does not work, unfortunately. I might have to manually set up something for wireless, as it only gave me ...

Re: LTS version 8.04.1
I'm pretty sure we already have it. If you have Firefox 3.0 final and linux kernel 24.19, you have it. If you're like me, you have to get the kernel via Synaptic, it refused to show up in Mint Update.

Re: No wireless
I'll try that. Though I have to say this stinks. I guess I will have to update to the next release just to get out of this kernel now, instead of sticking with LTS.

Gnome taskbar
When I make it completely transparent, there are still gray backgrounds behind the date, mint update icon, windows icon, trash icon, and notes icon. This does not happen in Ubuntu, only Mint. Screenshot is here: http://home.comcast.net/~danbuter/Screenshot.png

For a first language, Python is hard to beat. It' easy to read, used a lot in Linux, and has a ton of free documentation online.

No wireless
I can't get wireless to work on my computer. I have a cable connection, so the wired connection works fine. However, I travel a lot, most hotels only have wireless. I may have to download programs at home, then wait until hotel or coffee shop to install, if I need an active wireless connection for i...

Will there be a backports repo soon?
Just curious about this. One of the reasons I switched to Mint from Ubuntu is that 5 is supposed to have programs backported. There are a couple things I'd like to see already (Perl 5.10, AbiWord 2.6.3). Any news when/if this will happen?

Not sure about your hardware, but ALWAYS install windows in your first partition, linux in your second partition. Otherwise, bad things may happen.

Re: Compiz, Fusion or Beryl?
Of course, one of the first things I did after install was delete Compiz. It's one of the buggiest pieces of junk code ever foisted on linux.
