Does Cinnamon have a classic menu?

Hi all, I am currently using KDE as my desktop environment, and it has a "classic menu" option for the application launcher. Not being familiar with Cinnamon, I don't know if it also has the classic option. Here is an example of the classic menu under KDE: http://i.imgur.com/R1OYFZf.jpg Does Cinnamo...

Just so odd...
Odd indeed; maybe try changing the BIOS battery, sometimes they do really weird things when they get low. In any case, at least you narrowed it down to the BIOS, and are able to do your thing now.

UUID error when using ./configure

Hello, I am trying to compile the latest version of nautilus-actions (3.2.2), so, I downloaded the source to compile, but I am stuck at the ./configure part.

The error I am getting is:

Code: Select all

configure: error: UUID: condition uuid not satisfied
Any idea what's going on with that?

Re: New to linux distros

Yes, you can always install a different desktop environment to an existing installation. I originally installed Mint12 with KDE, then installed Gnome DE to check it out. I still have Gnome installed, but I prefer KDE. The installation method for Mint12 is detailed here: http://cyruslab.wordpress.com...

Re: "appname" or "appname:i386" <--- what's the difference?

Thanks Vincent, I am indeed using the 64 bit version (I should have mentioned that).

I'll continue choosing the 64 bit version; thanks for the explanation.

"appname" or "appname:i386" [SOLVED]

Sometimes when I am installing a new package, I have the choice between (consider "appname" the name of an applicaiton) "appname" or "appname:i386". Both of them will have the same build number, but generally one will have less of a description than the other. What's the difference between app and a...

Right click the clock, select "Digital Clock Settings" then go to "Calender". You can select from two choices in Canada, one in BritishEnglish, and one in French, both conveying Canadian National Holidays.

Re: KDE question on usability like in Gnome

I use Nautilus in KDE, and it has those same features available. I just selected the "Browse Network" option and got into the shared folder on my Windows Network. Started up the movie I stuck in there, and it streamed to this machine just fine.

Re: Back-Click?? Script for Nautilus

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but you can hit [Backspace] to move one level back in the hierarchy in Nautilus.

Additionally, you can use [Alt + Left] and [Alt+Right] to move through the folders you have recently visited.

KDE only has one "panel" on the bottom, AKA the taskbar, and you can adjust it's height.

Can't view desktop [SOLVED]

Using LinuxMint12 with KDE4. In my ~/Desktop folder I have a couple of .desktop icons (Firefox and Thunderbird), but they are not visible normally. The only time they are visible is when the computer is shutting down or I am logging out, when they are briefly visible. Any idea why "that" desktop, th...

Re: Making bootable UBS Help

In my BIOS I had to set "Hard Drive Priority" to boot from the USB drive before the existing HDD in addition to setting the boot order sequence. In other words, my BIOS considers the bootable USB stick to be an HDD.

Re: Sowtare Manager doesn't work

There is a thread about the SoftwareManager and a possible solution here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 76#p538288

Otherwise, just use "sudo apt-get install <package name>" to install things, because that actually works.

Re: Can't "update-grub" [SOLVED]

[edit] I solved this problem. The problem was that the first line in /etc/default/grub contained a character (x) before the comment/hash mark, which the "update-grub" was trying to process (hence the "x#:" in the error message). I removed the character before the commented out line, and I can now ru...
