Re: SDL app and shortcut/Fn keys

Well, unfortunately it turns out that I was quite wrong. After a marathon of searching, I found some information which seems to indicate that SDL does not actually pass along any key combination to the window manager. So apparently the developers are that short-sighted. This means it essentially bre...

Re: SDL app and shortcut/Fn keys

Wow... so no one else has a solution for this either? I'm kind of surprised that there is no workaround at all for this. I mean sure, I could avoid running all games and other SDL apps, but really that's curing the disease by killing the patient. I'm still refusing the accept that this can not be do...

SDL app and shortcut/Fn keys

Okay I've been having this problem for quite a while, and no amount of searching seems to turn up an answer. I absolutely refuse to accept that tis simply can not be solved because it is a real usability issue. Surely someone knows how to solve this. When playing a full-screen game (or running any S...

Re: How do I do a *complete* backup?

Personally I don't even use any extra apps to do a backup, as long as you have an external drive to backup to, this should work for you as well. just open up a console, become root with sudo su then do this: tar cvpf /media/your_external_drive/backup.tar --exclude=/proc --exclude=/lost+found --exclu...

Re: Thunar "Sort by Name" is not doing its job.

What you are seeing is normal, sorting is alphabetical not numeric. If you want to view the files in a numerical order then you must pad out the names with leading zeroes, like this: 000010 000020 000100 http://s9.postimg.org/54qyuyvkr/snapshot1.jpg Hi catweazel, Hmm. I was afraid you might say som...

Re: Thunar "Sort by Name" is not doing its job.

Hi DrHu, thanks for your reply. I tried the suggestions from the first link that you provided (editing thunarrc ) and I even rebooted for good measure, but sadly things did not seem to change. The file numbers jump right from "6" to the "50's" and then the 20's and 30's are furth...

Thunar "Sort by Name" is not doing its job.

I have a folder with many files, all with numerics in their names, such as "(number) - (name of File)" Example: 1 - First file 2 - Second file 3 - Third file ... 19 - Nineteenth File 20 - Twentieth File ... 100 - One-Hundreth File And so on. Now files are being added to this folder all the...

Re: HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

Thanks again zerozero! :) I admit that a lot of the info on launchpad is still above my level of understanding, and it takes me several hours of deep meditation to understand even the basic information there. It should also be noted that when this problem occurs, even now after the required packages...

HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

Bumping this to add... This happened to me again just now, this time I did a manual update because MintUpdate said I had 12 new updates, among them was vlc-data and nothing else related to vlc, so I didn't think much of it. There were NO warnings about anything being removed, I was very careful to w...

Re: HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

Okay so upon checking the launchpad list again, I see that all but one of the packages were successfully built now, so I tried to install vlc again via Synaptic, and it worked. ( 8) ) However I did notice that the one package that failed to build says "amd64", so I am not sure whether I ha...

Re: HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

There's no way I could ever forget that screen  I was just under the impression that it only asked in the case of non-standard packages or if the user actually did a manual update. I thought it did the regular ones automatically. Now I'm really wondering how it removed vlc without asking me...

Re: HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

regarding the first question: yes MU should display a pop-up saying that the action would affect also this and this. are you sure it didn't? now the other: vlc is removed because vlc-data (that is all-arch so it's build in 32bit) was updated to 2.0.5 and no, you can't install it again, not before t...

Re: HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

@zerozero Thanks for that bit of info, though now this has raised more questions. In one of my previous topics here on this forum, I had a strange issue where installing one thing made the updater want to remove the rest of my entire system (you might recall that, I think you posted there too :)). ...

Re: HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

There were no entries in the history for yesterday, I was not home most of the day, however it looks like there was an automatic update today when I turned on my machine, maybe this did it? I am noticing the remove lines and it looks like the upgrade of "vlc-data" also removed the rest of ...

HELP! VLC just... disappeared from my system!

Okay, I have what I believe to be the strangest problem in existence! Last night I was watching a movie with VLC, it was getting late so I decided to resume it today in the morning. I started my computer and went to resume watching and I noticed that the movie did not start in VLC but MPlayer instea...

Re: MintUpdate unauthenticated?

Well, thanks everyone, I'm glad it's not just me.

Being relatively new to Linux, I thought for a moment that it was actually a compromised package or some kind of malware.
Guess I'll just wait for it to be fixed, since it seems to be a server issue.

MintUpdate unauthenticated?

This is kind of strange, saw that I had updates available today, but when I went to apply them I received this warning in the screenshot. For now I am being safe and not updating this one. Anyone else receive this?

Re: Xfce notification messages

Okay, I thought I was making some progress but it seems I dodged one obstacle for another one. Here's what I did: After reading some blog posts, I uninstalled xfce-notifyd using synaptic. Then I installed notify-osd and re-installed notification-daemon . I then rebooted my machine. Now the not...

Re: Xfce notification messages

dagon , I do appreciate your posting that link as I did not come across it before. It is a bit disheartening to see that the bug is over a year old and has not had any activity in the past nine months. I'll keep looking for solutions as it seems that bug has gone into a void. In the meanwhile if an...

Re: Xfce notification messages

Well, I guess nobody else has found a solution either, because I came up with absolute zilch about this.

So let me ask this instead... Can I use a different notification daemon with Xfce? One that hopefully will show above fullscreen windows?
