[SOLVED] Need a little help with OpenVpn

Ever since I took a bunch of Mint 19 updates on the 12th, I can't connect with my vpn client via UDP. I can connect with it via TCP. Iptables have been checked and are not the issue. The latest from client support: "Now you can rule out that the UDP block comes from your machine, at least with those...

[SOLVED] iptables help

I need a listing, preferably saved as a txt file of all rules in all iptables. I tried "iptables-save" but I can't tell if that worked. If it did, I can't find where it was saved?

Thanks

Re: VPN has stopped working in Mint 19

Update: I have now discovered that my vpn connection works when I change from Mint 19 to Mint 17.2. I have both versions installed on the same hd. Didn't think to try this first. (it has been working for several months on Mint 19) Maybe some update has screwed with it? Also, I can get the vpn to wor...

Re: Email client like Thunderbird?

After your research, which one would you recommend? Ah, you really want to open that 'can of worms'? :) My research on this topic was quite extensive. I spent many hours on it. What surprised me the most was that some of these supposed security/privacy providers still store your emails as plain tex...

I don't think removing libre office is a good idea. There are probably other programs using parts of Libre office to work properly.r
Such as?

VPN has stopped working in Mint 19

After working fine for many months, my vpn has suddenly stopped working in 19. It still works fine when I reboot to Mint 17.2. Everything else, with regard to connecting to the internet, works properly. My vpn client is setup exactly the same on both 19 17.2. I contacted the vendor, and after lookin...

Let's all go back to the library again and read some good books... Might I suggest 2? 1.Bruce Schneier's book 'Data and Goliath'. 2. Kevin Mitnick's book, 'The Art of Invisibility'. More info: (Just a few. There's plenty more on the web if you look.) https://www.bestvpn.com/guides/the-ultimate-priv...

It's a big book, sometimes tough to read, by one of the worlds foremost security experts. Even though it's about 5 yrs old now, it truly is an 'eye opener'. Think you kn...

Opera is now owned by the Chinese.
It's always been known to be one of the worst browsers with regard to privacy/security.

This is obviously not a big deal, just annoying. Never had the issue in 17.2.

Does anything happen if you click/right-click on it?
No, and it's quite random. Wasn't there yesterday but on boot this am....there it was again.
Sometimes it only shows up for part of the day.
Sometimes on restart it goes away, and sometimes not.

Re: move ~/.cache/thumbnails to ramdisk?

Sure it's possible, but why on earth would you do that? One reason, Physical Security. Some people don't need a thumbnail of every pic they've ever looked at hanging around on their computers. Just like some of us don't want a record of every program we've opened in 'recently-used.xbel', or the inf...

This is exactly why I believe we need a Security/Privacy section with tutorials on this forum.
Good luck with that. I proposed this years ago and got flamed for my effort. The general consensus seems to be that since it's Linux, no worries. Guess again.
