Mate 19 installed alongside Mate 17.2. Now what?

I installed 19 alongside 17.2 and both appear to be working fine.
Any way to get my current 17.2 setups over to 19? Would sure hate to have to redo all apps/setups.
TIA

Re: CD'ing from terminal to external hd's has quit working.

Thanks. That worked but any idea why it stopped working directly from the terminal? I think the space in the path is the culprit try: cd "/media/tom/My\ Book3TB" the quotes should fix Thanks, but doesn't work that way. This really isn't a big issue, (just an annoyance), as long as I can get to the ...

CD'ing from terminal to external hd's has quit working.

I've used these two commands from terminal for many months and they've worked just fine: cd /media/tom/My\ Book4TB/Misc cd /media/tom/My\ Book3TB All of a sudden, they've stopped working with the following error: term.png I can access both from the desktop icons no problem, but I need access to both...

Waterfox launch icons have disappeared.

They have disappeared from the menu and the desktop. Also can't find the Waterfox executable in any of the wf folders.
All other files appear to still be in the wf folders, just not the exe.
Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place?

Thanks

Handbrake suddenly failing to launch

Been using HB for many years and it's always launched correctly. Tried it this am, (via desktop icon), and all I get is a quick flash of the gui and then it dies. Tried via command prompt and same thing happens. (ghb:6150): Gtk-CRITICAL **: _gtk_cell_layout_buildable_add_child: assertion 'GTK_IS_CEL...

Re: Trouble accessing web portal of my Linksys E2500

Update: From router login screen: (after re-config) username: admin pw: admin Hit the 'login button and the pw field auto adds a bunch of characters but then logs me in! WTH? If I try it with my actual pw, login fails. Linksys support has escalated the issue. We'll see. Maybe time for a new router a...

Trouble accessing web portal of my Linksys E2500

I have a strange problem. (also posted on the Linksys forum) Linux Mint 17.2. Linksys E2500 I go to 192.168.1.1, enter my username, then pw, and click login. When I do that, extra characters are automatically entered in the pw field and login fails. Even if I leave the username and pw fields blank a...

Re: How to stop 'File last accessed.....'

You do not want to prevent a file system from recording the modification time; it would break a lot of apps. Access time is rarely used and newer file systems use smart access time. This means they only change the access time if it's older than the modification time. If you are concerned about secu...

Re: How to stop 'File last accessed.....'

Getting closer to solving this. Using the 'touch' command, you can modify the access and modified dates to any time/date you'd like. Still have one issue though. tom@tom-Inspiron-3847 ~ $ touch filetest (creates the file) tom@tom-Inspiron-3847 ~ $ touch -t 200001011200 filetest (changes dates/times ...

Re: How to stop 'File last accessed.....'

Assume for a minute, and this is only one example, that you have an encrypted file on your computer and your computer gets confiscated by a law enforcement agency. Pretty hard to deny that you don't remember the pw if the file shows you've accessed/modified recently. All depends on your 'threat mod...

It should be an option and not just hard coded.
Privacy seems to be somewhat of an afterthought with OS developers.

Re: How to stop 'File last accessed.....'

Do all flavors of Linux do this? I personally prefer it that way, I can tell when I created the file, and the last time that I looked at the file. why would this be a Privacy issue? For some, it wouldn't be. For others, this could be a big deal. Assume for a minute, and this is only one example, th...
