Re: Menu items invisible
Here are before and after screenshots instead. The first shows a selected menu item without the cursor, the second shows the same selected item with the cursor on. I have experimented with different Cinnamon themes, some button themes work, for example "Mint Y Dark".

Menu items invisible
In a Java program on Mint Cinnamon, menu items that have an 'active' state are shown with their text as the same colour as the background, rendering the menu item impossible to read until hovered over. I am pretty sure it is Cinnamon related, as the application concerned works perfectly on Mint MATE...

Re: LM 18.1 Login Screen Error .dmrc probably related to Samba not sure
@Dark: Works for me too! I've never heard of Samba. It's possible some of the permissions on my /home partition were wrong due to past attempts to fix problems.

Re: Window Decorations
I've switched to Cinnamon and it's fine. Must be a MATE problem.

Re: Window Decorations
Well that's clear and unambiguous!
Since fixes it, and fixes it (and looks like Mint ought to look), for that session at least, should I assume that marco is used, and there is something wrong with a configuration file for it?
Since
Code: Select all
metacity --replace
Code: Select all

Window Decorations
I've read several threads on this and haven't found an answer. I've just installed Linux Mint. When I first tried Mint several years ago I had problems with missing window decorations which were never really resolved. I've decided to try it again (MATE) but still have the same problem. It may be set...

Re: Konica Minolta 2400w driver
That would explain it. I expect that was caused by my earlier failed attempts to install the drivers. It's not the first time I have had horrendous problems caused by configuration files hanging around, so I did try sudo apt-get remove printer-driver-m2300w --purge I was a bit more cautious about me...

Re: Konica Minolta 2400w driver
The printer is now working. In desperation I installed one of the Cups packages that I was reluctant to install before because it said it would un-install foomatic-filters and I had read somewhere that Foomatic was needed for the driver. There are dozens of those things, I don't know how you are sup...

Since this seems to be to do with users and groups I looked at that and I think they must be the groups I am a member of. Having lpadmin looks good.

Re: Konica Minolta 2400w driver
Thanks for the explanatory comments, they mean I might learn something rather than just typing it parrot-fashion. It has revealed something interesting: chris@Asus:~$ /usr/sbin/lpinfo -v lpinfo: cups-deviced failed to execute. chris@Asus:~$ I've also found a useful page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debug...

Re: Konica Minolta 2400w driver
Despite my Web searches I didn't find that. It looks like the simplest way of doing it. When I downloaded it, I got the message that it was already installed, but system-config-printer did not show it. I un-installed it and deleted any files or directories with m2300w in and tried again. It installe...

[SOLVED] Konica Minolta 2400w driver
This printer is supported in Ubuntu MATE, there is a driver in the Software Centre, but now I have switched to Mint Cinnamon, I find that there isn't one for it. I did a download (it is called m2300w as that does for both printers), and tried compiling the driver - I don't really understand that pro...

Re: Irritating pause before menu is displayed
Is it possible to use "preload" to speed this up? If I could work out where preload's configuration file was, perhaps I could put 'mintmenu' in there so that it is always preloaded in memory. Edit: After a bit of investigation it looks as though preload can't be configured to load specific...

Re: Compositing problem? Libre Office makes panels disappear
Rather than wait until Mint 18 (or later) for Marco 1.8.1, is it possible to update to it by adding another software source then using apt-get install?

Compositing problem? Libre Office makes panels disappear
I discovered this problem when I installed Mint 17 MATE, I have checked Mint 16 MATE and the same problem occurs with that version. There is a problem with LibreOffice Calc and Writer. If I highlight cells then select Background Colour/Nofill, the panel disappears. It can be brought back by clicking...

Re: Location of desktop setup files
In practice, the only way I can think of finding the pre-installation files is by looking at each of the hundreds of directories and ordering them by date, is there an easier way? How would I distinguish configuration files from a package I still use from a configuration file from Mint that I no lon...
