Re: mint kde 18 get rid of black background tooltip

It saying you don't have permission indicates a problem. Check that you are the owner of the configuration files in your home directory. Changing the colors as root only will effect the root user, which I believe you can't actually log into, so you won't see those color changes. I tried this on KDE ...

Re: Launcher creation

You need a .desktop file for the application. In Dolphin, from your Home directory, go to the .local/share/application directory. .local is normally hidden, but you can get there by simply clicking on the local bar - you will see /home/user (where "user" is your user name). Start typing .local/share...

Re: Right click menu editing KDE 18.3

I know what you mean, I personally don't like using the trash, which requires me to delete a file twice (once to move to the trash and another to empty the trash). When I want to delete a file, I want to delete it, permanently. However, I do have confirmations on Delete turned on, because I don't wa...

Re: Right click menu editing KDE 18.3

If it's Delete that you want to remove, that's easy enough to do. By default, Delete is usually not there and it has to be added (at least that's been my experience as I want the Delete option and it's not there). However, I do see that it appears to be enabled with Mint 18.3 after installation (by ...

Re: Where did the rest of the keyboard shortcuts go in 18.3?

The shortcuts are under essentially the same place in 18.3 (KDE 5.8.9) as in 17.3 (KDE 4.14.2), almost. Under System Settings, Workspace/Shortcuts, and on the Global Shortcuts page (with KDE 4 its Common Appearance and Behavior/Shortcuts and Gestures). Raise and Lower Window are under KWin (Other Sh...

Re: Computer screen is zoomed in

Looks like the Zoom Desktop Effect, strange that the zoom stays in effect after rebooting (but it does, I tried it). It's not Ctrl+- that zooms it back out, but Meta+- by default (Meta is the Windows key) - Meta+= zooms in (which is what you must have hit by accident, and Meta+0 that resets it. You ...

Re: Can't set default programs

I'm still on 17.3 - it works and is still supported. Yes, I've seen that option to remember, but it doesn't seem to actually remember. Here's what I do instead: Settings, under Common Appearance and Behavior select File Associations. Open video (click on the '+' or triangle in front of it). Click on...

Re: KDE Installed On Cinnamon

Is there another way to disable to screen locking? I've had trouble with the Mint KDE's over the years with the screen saver time setting essentially being ignored even when disabled. The screen saver/lock always kicked in after 10 minutes. Very aggravating that I eventually just disabled the locki...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I didn't say there would not be KDE libraries packages, but that specifically there would probably not be a mint-meta-kde package.

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I don't think that procedure will be an option once Mint 19 is released - there will probably not be a mint-meta-kde package to install since the Mint team is not going to be doing anything with KDE.

Re: Critcial bug of konsole in KDE5

I'm not seeing that here - when Konsole is closed, it disappears from System Activity and the CPU is not at a 100%. Perhaps it is getting hung up in a bash script (.bashrc, .bash_profile, etc.) from some program that was started in there. Try this, clear the search window in System Activity and sele...

Re: mint won't start after changing desktop effects settings

You have to start a Live session, and then navigate to that directory to get the default kwinrc file. If you don't have access to you actual system (you will have to mount it), then copy kwinrc to another USB drive. End the Live session and boot up your actual system. I created a temporary VM and st...

Re: mint won't start after changing desktop effects settings

The specific configuration file you are looking for is /home/username/.kde/share/config/.kwinrc. The section for the desktop effects are in the [Plugins] section - they all start with "kwin4_effect_...". Looks like the compositing settings are in the [Compositing] section. What you could do is simpl...

Re: System Tray and Digital Clock Moved

The problem you describe is that the Task Manager widget is missing so you much have accidentally remove it (which is easy enough to do unintentionally). To add it back, click on the little cashew icon at the right end of the task bar. Click on the + Add Widgets button. Type "task" in the text box o...

Re: KDE Konsole Keeps Krashing

You could try to see if there are any obvious errors upon starting Konsole. Start it from xterm to see if there are any errors. Possibly Konsole's configuration file got corrupted. So another suggestion would be to delete it and then try starting it again - it will create a new one, and of course an...

On Mint 17.3/KDE 4, there at /usr/share/sounds. Not sure if they are at the same place on Mint 18/KDE 5, if not, try search for .ogg files under the /usr directory.

Re: Konsole issues

There's a couple of things to try. First look in the log files to see if there are any errors that might identify the problem. On KDE4, the log file to look at for konsole is ~/.cache/upstart/startkde.log. The other thing you could do is start konsole from xterm and see if there are any error messag...

Re: Make mouse move infinitely between dual monitor

I'm not sure what you mean by "infinitely" between two displays. One two computers where I have Mint KDE installed (still 13 though), I have two monitors (one is a laptop with a second monitor, the other is a desktop with a 19" TV attached via HDMI). On both of these computers, the resolution of eac...
