Re: Skyrim on WINE

It is a known issue that also happens on Windows.

Check the "TESV.exe becomes a Zombie process instead of quitting." comment on the wine AppDB page for more info:

Re: Mint 13 XFCE start menu missing

It looks like Cinnamon's file manager is set to manage the desktop and has started up. Try finding it in the task manager (it's called nemo, IIRC) and closing it. I had this problem with Enlightenment 17 beta when I was playing around with that; every time some process opened caja (Mate's file manag...

Re: Press one button and another one appears.

Sounds like the '-' key on the keyboard is stuck somehow. . Try pressing it repeatedly until it unsticks and/or shaking/wacuuming (carefully)/blowing out the crud that inevitably gathers under the keys on all keyboards. If that doesn't help, you may have a hardware failure inside it somewhere that s...

Re: installation incomplete

Set the partition's mount point as '/' (root) and format it as ext4.
That should do the trick.

Umm... that space in the rm command, is that a typo, or is that exactly verbatim as you entered the command into the terminal?
If that's what you typed, your files may be gone forever.

Re: Problem logging in Mint 13

Try pressing alt+shift+F12 to toggle desktop effects off. See if you get the panels back.

I had a similar issue temporarily until I toned down the effects on my desktop.

Re: Ripping Music

Banshee is able to do it. I used it once to add a new CD to my music server.
You might need to activate the CD/DVD support plug-in in preferences to have it show up.

Have Fun. :)

Re: software manager

This is a common issue. The software manager starts searching for what ever you've typed into the search box as soon as you've typed it. And it searches EVERYWHERE in the repositories list, including summaries. kc1di has a fix that might work in this post in another thread on the same issue: http://...

Re: Booted into Mint with no Menu

Seeing as this is a fresh install, the easiest and most certain way to fix this, would be to reinstall the whole thing. We don't know what you were messing in when you cut the power to the system, and it sounds like you don't either, so that would be the least painful way to get Mint up and running ...

Re: Installing KDE on top of Gnome

...you don't want to mess up. I'm actually half expecting to mess the system up royally (again). That's how I learn to save it. :P I'll be re-arranging the physical HDDs and partitions during the reinstall, so the whole thing will be wiped when I'm done 'playing around'. That is where backups come ...

Re: Installing KDE on top of Gnome

I've been trying out the different flavours of Mint the last few days as well, in preparation for a reinstall. I had the same issue pop up with the 'mint-meta-mate' v 'mint-meta-kde' package conflict. I resolved it by simply diking 'mint-meta-mate' out of the system. I can't remember if I had to do ...

Re: Getting Enlightenment

This is a dual monitor setup with 2 desktops set up. 1 per monitor After your first post my searching found only a reference to dual monitor setup - the situation being that the first monitor was considered to be one instance of the compositor running(sorry I can't find the link). This is either a ...

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Something came up. Let's go through the list: All valid themes in /usr/share/themes should be shown - all I can think of is either you didn't put your themes there or they are not complete themes. They were in the user home/.themes/ folder I copied them over withou...

Re: Getting Enlightenment

Hi, palo. I installed fresh from the Alpha PPA (never had E installed before), then updated to the current version from there. I just tried deleting the '.e' folder from my home directory from MATE (hadn't thought of that), but it didn't fix it. First thing I got after the initial setup was a popup ...

Re: Getting Enlightenment

I installed E17 a couple of days ago (and updated yesterday) from the new ppa. Works surprizingly well for an alpha release on my machine (few crashes, but recovers fast). :D I have two small problems, though: 1. I have no idea how to switch to the compositor that comes with it (E17 complains about ...

Re: Need help with the code to mount a USB memory stick

Assuming you have a DVD drive in the machine in question and access to a DVD Writer/burner: Get an .iso image of the Mint version you want to reinstall/upgrade to, burn it to a DVD and boot a Live session from that. That should initialize the USB system properly for you to be able to back up your da...

Re: new left handed mouse

Mint doesn't require dedicated drivers for Razer mice to work (using a Razer Imperator myself), although the advanced setup functions (create profiles, adjust dpi steppings, etc) are not available. To get the advanced settings to work, you might try installing the windows version of the driver softw...

Re: How to uninstall and reinstall a faulty program

From the Menu, start up 'Software Manager', search or browse for the program, then click the 'Remove' button. It should want to authorize (via password), then start removing the program right away. (Re-)Installation works the same way, the button is called 'Install' instead of 'Remove'. Another way ...
