Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

it is fun to fiddle with the OS itself for some while most others just want some stable OS to use for their applications/programmes. That's precisely why I do prefer Debian over Ubuntu, I hate to reinstall every six months. (Yeah, I know it's not mandatory, but it is if you want to stay up to date....

Re: Google Chrome/Chromium crashes on startup

I don't have any problems loading a page from another app. It is a temporary issue in Chrome I think, there have been many of these issues recently. On Linux I've switched to Firefox 4, but on Windows, Chrome still works so I'm keeping it. (My provider has just introduced a webmail which does not n...

Re: Google Chrome/Chromium crashes on startup

Same here; I'm no longer able to use Chrome stable/unstable/beta nor Chromium. Tried them all; they stall at startup forever.
Mint KDE 10 amd64 here.

Re: improve the performance on a netbook

1) In System Settings go to Desktop Effects and make sure Texture Filter is set to Nearest (Fastest). Compositing type should be on OpenGL (of course, make sure you have properly working 3D drivers). The option "Enable direct rendering" should also be ticked, as should "Use VSync&quo...

Re: Only 1 Workspace in LMDE?

I've found a way for it to work (sort of). From http://www.pubbs.net/200909/debian/113742-only-one-workspace-when-using-compiz.html At last I found rotate plugin had to be enabled to get the desktop switcher applet to work and this plugin wasn't enabled because I didn't check "rotate cube"...

Re: Only 1 Workspace in LMDE?

I've been experiencing the same problem - only one workspace in LMDE. I tried CCSM>General Options>Desktop Size>Number of Desktops but compiz prevented me from changing the number - the up/down arrows are unresponsive and a number changed manually simply reverts to 1. Same for me. And "Horizon...

Re: Only 1 Workspace in LMDE?

I have exactly the same problem! :( It seems like there is no desktop switcher at all. I mean, I can't find anywhere a place to reduce/increase the virtual desktops number (usually it's just right-click on the applet); but since I installed compiz there are no options. Even the AWM desktop switching...

Re: LM XFCE or LXDE vs. Crunchbang Openbox or XFCE

On my netbook (EeePC 1000HE) I'm currently trying Crunchbang Statler Openbox (with added XFCE) and I love it. It uses around 70Mb RAM vs the 100 (and sometimes 200!) Mbs of Ubuntu/Mint. So, I blame it on the Ubuntu base. I'm so waiting for a Debian based Mint... 8) In the end, I'd prefer the "m...

Re: What's the best way to try XFCE?

Other than Mint XFCE, I love Sidux XFCE and Crunchbang XFCE (the latest Beta aka Statler). I'm trying them both and they are very very good. They have different implementations of the desktop environment but both of them are nice. Maybe they could be an inspiration for your personal XFCE desktop...

Re: Linux Mint E17

.but I don't have the funds to pay $15 on a distro that doesn't look have any decent support. Their are complaints all over the forums about the devs just falling off the face of the earth. Yes, support is non-existent, as is the community. That's a no-no for me. I'm too used to the wonderful Mint ...

Re: Linux Mint E17

I would kill for a Linux Mint E17 Edition!!! 8) I love Enlightenment, but I have yet to find a really good distro dedicated to it. Elive is good but I don't like its policy; openGEU was good but development seems to have stopped (?); ozOS isn't very good. Just pasting E17 over (minimal) Ubuntu didn'...
