Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

Friendliest Site - Linuxmint Best support deb base - Linuxmint Best deb OS - Debian but beware, no support from their forum but never fails. Moving away from deb base OS Opensuse - keeps on ticking with no issues. Not as easy as deb base OS. Havn't tried the rest long enough to give a honest answer....

Re: Botched Distro Install Attempt

Tails will be installed to the USB, just boot from the USB and you will be running Tails. You can now use the USB and Tails on any computer you sit behind.

Without the USB you should be able to boot normally into Ubuntu as if Tails was never install.

Hi, Ran into some of the same issues as yourself. Came across this from one site or another and have been using it for the last 3 - 4 months while traveling. sudo apt-get install hostapd git build-essential git clone https://github.com/oblique/create_ap.git cd create_ap sudo make install Wired to on...

Re: Bind9 or Dnscrypt

bind9 and Dnscrypt don't work together. Dnscrypt uses its own address, usually 127.0.0.1 or 127.0.0.2 bind9 is used to send all your communications threw 127.0.0.1 Great to prevent DNS leaks with/without a VPN. There are many dnsleak test sites. I usually test on a few and the one posted above is ve...

Re: Avoiding IoT

Someone I know recently told me they're migrating their home over to a "smart home". Can't tell you how much I laughed and shook my head. Aggravating though; he's utterly oblivious and it doesn't matter how many facts I give him, evidence I show him, or experience/knowledge I have, he'll jus...

I use LuckyBackup. Lots of redundancy, scheduled and automated.
Occasionally I also clone my OS partitions onto an external drive with Gparted.
LuckyBackup just keeps on going, been using it for many years and it just works.

Re: Forum has been upgraded (report issues here)

Think I found a bug that wasn't there a few days a go. When I select a thread we will say half way down the page and read the post and decide to hit the back arrow, it takes you back to the top of the page instead of the location you clicked on the thread. Meaning you have to scroll down to where yo...

Re: DNS Leaking when using VPN

Install dnscrypt from the software manager - I use dnscrypt and no DNS leak weather I use my VPN or not. Is it possible to use dnscrypt and Bind9 together? I am happily using Bind9 alone at the moment. Nope, bind9 will not work with dnscrypt. Dnscrypt uses there own type of bind9. It's like using D...

Been lucky enough that I have not seen an ad yet.

Not sure which addon is doing all the good work or if it's the modified hosts file. :D

Re: Keyboard shortcut for Xfce shutdown?

I used this on my headless file server. To shut it off, I just tap the power button once when walking by. Xfce set "Power Button" to shut down when pressed. sudo nano /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml change the follow number at the end of the line from "3" to "4" on ...
