Re: Thunderbird 115 Update - Solved
@yellowfinch and @ronsmeyer, thanks and sorry to have raised this. I was somewhat tired and confused when I posted that. For whatever reason, the 'Unified folders' box was ticked as well as the 'Unread' box, and this somehow turns off the folder expansion that I expected. I've now managed to adjust ...

Re: Thunderbird 115 Update - Solved
Thanks to each for the comments on my earlier post. Yes, Evolution isn't great, and the others are way too basic. So, I've been fiddling with the settings in Thunderbird. The one thing I can't find is how to make it show me unread emails in the subfolders? (Moved there by the message filters). It sh...

Re: Thunderbird 115 Update - Solved
I'm giving up on T'Bird. They keep doing things like this and it's always a wrestle to sort it out. This time it's even harder than ever, and I tried the instructions given but I'm too old and tired to keep having to do this instead of what I came on the laptop to do. Any suggestions please for alte...

Re: Dual boot with Win11 unhappy. [Solved]
Well, I bit the bullet and reinstalled Mint 21.1. This, initially, further broke the system in that I had no boot into Mint, and also had somehow screwed up the wifi when using the LiveUSB. Anyhow, this was eventually resolved by once again re installing, very carefully, from the Live USB. The diffe...

Re: Dual boot with Win11 unhappy.
I'd love to know how to do that, in a dual boot system. I have just done a reinstall of Mint21.1 and I still can't boot into it. I now have a Grub, but the linux boot fails with a raft of errors, and leaves me in busybox with an (initramfs) prompt.

Dual boot with Win11 unhappy. [Solved]
I have a laptop with two drives, one dedicated to Windows and the other to Linux Mint 21.1. Since upgrading Win10 to Win11, and many new kernals and upgrades to Mint, the contents of the efi partiton on the smaller windows drive has exceeded it's available space. The latest update to Grub2 broke it....

Re: Can I add USB option to Grub2 menu?[SOLVED]
Thanks haploikos. I do indeed already have the manual, from back when I first got this laptop. I confess I had forgotten about the F12 option, but I did remember enough about having repeatedly accessed the BIOS to give a boot from USB result that I can usually get the F2 solution to work, eventually...

Re: Can I add USB option to Grub2 menu?
Thanks bendipa, but that is a very different model XPS15 than mine. Mine is the 2018 XPS15 9570, with different BIOS etc. Maybe I'm wrong about the secure boot, but I do recall getting in a mess with it in the Windows 10 it first came with, and vowing never to go there again. I've had little trouble...

Re: Can I add USB option to Grub2 menu?
Well thanks for the replies guys. I'm using Mint 21.1 with Cinnamon desktop, on a Dell XPS15 laptop. Sadly, the Windows11/Dell system seems to preclude disabling secure boot, or at least when I've tried doing that before it got me in a bit of a mess. Grub2 does a great job of, as ricardogroetaers sa...

Can I add USB option to Grub2 menu?[SOLVED]
Hi, I'm dual booting Mint21.1 and Win11. My grub menu lists Mint 21.1, Mint 21.1 recovery, Win bootloader. I'd like it to show the third item in the BIOS list as well, Boot from USB. Is there an easy safe way to do that? Thanks.

Re: Opinion: Fatpack is too fat!...
Simply don't install any Flatpaks. And live happily ever after. So, how do I find out which apps I'm using that 'need' Flatpak? So this is what I do, as a matter of course, on all of my machines: sudo apt-get purge "*flatpak*" I'd happily get rid of this overstuffed annoyance myself, if I...

Re: Labelling of software [SOLVED]
OK, sorry to annoy everyone. I just found this: http://gparted-forum.surf4.info/viewtopic.php?id=17092 So it seems that it does still matter to some, but not to me (or the majority) and I should use the amd64 version. However, it seems to me that it is time this was clarified, why an AMD reference i...

Labelling of software [SOLVED]
Hi everyone. I sometimes acquire software from Github and similar sources, rather than the Mint sources, (e.g. GParted) and this sometimes comes in different flavours like amd64, i686, or plain 64-bit. For many many years I built my own PCs, and always favoured the AMD processors, which naturally re...

Re: Mint 20 and Canon TS8150 -NOT solved
I think I am easily led. When a print instruction finally resulted in printing on both sides of the paper, I thought "FIXED"! But it wasn't. After a reboot and a bit more messing about, the thing started happening again on the next test print (I've wasted so much paper!). What I THINK happ...

Re: Mint 20 and Canon TS8150
Whoa! After a system logout/login, and a re-start of the printer, it now is WORKING! Thank you brian_p and pdc_2 for all your help with this. I apologise for being so slow and cack handed about this. A few years ago I knew my way around somewhat in Linux but I fear old age and failing memory togethe...

Re: Mint 20 and Canon TS8150
Thank you pdc_2. I had been missing the . before the /install (eek!). Yes, that worked and I have a new printer, but sadly after a '$ sudo service cups restart' it still skips printing on the back of the first page and loads a new sheet for the second. Now I'll see if the files brian_p wanted have b...

Re: Mint 20 and Canon TS8150
Hi there. I tried '$ lpinfo -m | less -p 1800' which gave me highlighted lines in about 330 full screen pages. I found lots about Epson Kyocera and other brands, but nothing for Canon that I could see. I then tried '$ lpinfo -m | less -p TS1800' which gave me a 'pattern not found. I'll go and resear...

Looks like I'm not using the shell script in the right way somehow? It seems to be having no effect. I have other duties just now, I'll be back later.

Re: Mint 20 and Canon TS8150
I have overwritten the PPD from my backup copy. I can get rid of that and use the install.sh again if you wish me to?it should give a location of a PPD from the package.
