Re: Dual Boot: Mate & Cinnamon??

When you say "dual boot", I imagine you downloaded the Linux Mint Cinnamon ISO and installed that as a separate operating system on your hard disk. Is that what you did? Yes, that is exactly what I did. What is the easiest way to correct my error? I have no problem uninstalling if need be. I really...

Dual Boot: Mate & Cinnamon??

I've been using Mint 13 - Mate - since it's release, after having used UBUNTU for several years, and leaving it with the advent of Unity. The operable term is "using". I'm not a developer, nor progam writer. I "use" Linux for its security and simplicity; and I use Mint specificly because it is "user...

Re: Computer Won't Shut Down (RESOLVED)

A remark on the blank black pseudo console monitor: 1) the <ctrl><alt><f1> took me to a blank screen, not the terminal, This suggests that during boot up Grub uses a screen resolution which is not compatible with either your graphics card or your monitor Oops, I failed to mention that I have a prob...

Re: Computer Won't Shut Down

Karl, Thank you for your prompt response. First, Yes, you have accurately stated the chronology of events leading to my Mint 13, Mate, reinstall and subsequent shut down problems. I can add that at one time, and one time only, I had a msg to the affect that "the 'virtual kernel' failed to load. I ca...

Computer Won't Shut Down

My Computer won't shut down using the 'Menu' "quit" cmd, after a fresh Mint 13, 'Mate' install, as well as installing all the updates and updating the xserver-xorg-core. I have to use the power button to shut down. I've been using Mint 13, Mate, since it's release, without any problems until a recen...

Banshee Problem After Cinnamon Desktop Install??

As a recent convert from Unity to Mint 13, I tried both Mate and Cinnamon live before settling on and installing Mate. Uploaded some music to Banshee and all went well. After finding more info on Cinnamon, I used the Pkg Mgr to install the Cinnamon desktop, and was pleased to see all of my music on ...

Re: Mint Newbie with 2 Questions? SOLVED

Thanks to all for your specific guidance, and instructions. I do appreciate your time and attention; and I now have enough info to make a more informed decision as to the upgrade. I did do a search of the forums before asking my Qs, I just wasn't as thorough as I should have been. Best to you...

Mint Newbie with 2 Questions?

As a brief background, I'm a newbie to Mint, but I've been using UBUNTU for several years, with the operative term being "using". I am familiar with most of the GUI methods of adding and removing packages, and I know where and what the 'Terminal' is, but don't know much about the different commands,...
