Re: Kernel upgrade error - dkms / ndiswrapper

Oh, no offence taken... I've been running the mainline Kernels (a bad habit I've gotten into!) since Mint 18,2 and have had no issues or glitches at all, until 4.15. I asked here, rather than on a more generic Linux forum, as there seem to be very many knowledgeable members here who may have an idea...

Kernel upgrade error - dkms / ndiswrapper

Hi guys, Just hit an error when upgrading the Linux Kernel from 4.14.x to 4.15.x in Linux Mint 18.3 - been upgrading the Kernel for 12 months without any issues. See the attached screenshot for the build-error (couldn't do a text-capture for some reason)... The errors are related to dkms/ndiswrapper...

Re: 4.14.8 kernel on LM 18.3 xfce 64-bit - works well...

Once again - another update.

After a clean install of LM 18.3 xfce 64-bit, I installed Ukuu and then installed kernel 4.14.8.

Been running for a few days now with no issues at all.

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Xfce released!

I upgraded (via the Update Manger) my 18.2 xfce to 18.3, but I have noticed that the Login Window Manager wasn't changed to the version that appears with a clean install of LM18.3.

Does that mean that the upgrade process leaves MDM and doesn't replaced it with LightDM?

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: [SOLVED] 18.3 Login screen resolution 'changing' main screen resolution...

I discovered that the issue wasn't with LM, but rather with VirtualBox (my LM 18.3 install was a virtual machine).

The latest update to VB (5.2.4) fixed the issue.

Cheers,

Mike.

Ah, okay. Both users are admin-level atm. Not a huge issue now I understand the workings.

Re: Update Manager showing different updates for different users?

Hi guys, Finally discovered the reason. In my original account, I'd blacklisted a number of programs and utilities. In the new account, these weren't on any blacklist. This strikes me as a bit of an issue, since the new user could inadvertently install unwanted updates, which the original user didn'...

Re: 18.3 Login screen resolution 'changing' main screen resolution...

The other issue I have the (I guess) LightDM is that there don't seem to be any login window 'themes' as there were with MDM...

It's really just visual 'fluff', but the extra options and login window layouts were quite nice.

Re: 18.3 Login screen resolution 'changing' main screen resolution...

Thanks for the reply... So it's LightMDM that's the issues - I've heard of issues with this. I'm glad I'm not the only one! I tried: sudo apt install mdm xscreensaver ... but get an error - any suggestions: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Pack...

No, it was 'tongue-in-cheek' - wishing that xfce was released SOONER :-)

So you want the team to hold Cinnamon back until XFCE is finished? How does that help anyone?

[SOLVED] Update Manager showing different updates for different users?

Hi, I've recently set up my Linux Mint 18.2/3 64-bit xfce system to have another user account - previously I only ever used it as a single-user system. I've noticed that when I run update manager while in the new user account, a new bunch of updates are showing as available. even though on the other...

[SOLVED] 18.3 Login screen resolution 'changing' main screen resolution...

Hi Guys, I've looked around the forum and while there have been similar threads, I've found no solution and it's driving me nucking futs! I'm now running LM 18.3 xfce 64-bit - this WASN'T an issue on LM18.2 The native resolution of my display is 1920 x 1200, which is what the 'Display' is set to wit...

Just another update. Since upgrading to 4.10, I installed the ukuu kernel update utility (which automates the update process) and have been regularly updating the kernel upon each official release. Currently running kernel 4.13.6. I'm running LM 18.2 xfce, 64-bit and have had zero issues so far - th...

Re: Help with Google Earth

Same issue here - running on an AMD Radeon HD 7570 card. Linux Mint 18.2 xfce, 64-bit. Works fine under Virtual Box with a Linux Mint 18.2 xfce 64-bit guest though. Don't think it's related to the kernel - I've tried it with the LM 18.2 default (4.8 something?) and also the latest 4.12.08 - same pro...
