Mint + Detachable PC?

Greetings, I'd like to ask about the compatibility of the newer Mint versions when it comes to detachable, or 2 in 1 laptops. I've got an HP x2 210 machine in my possession and due to its low specs, I'd like to install something lighter than Windows 10 (I mean, I've got an Intel Atom processor, 2 gi...

Re: Install Mint to a 2.5” HDD (enclosure)?

In terms of secure boot - I thought it wouldn't allow you to boot to USB so either I was wrong or it is already turned off... Under normal circumstances, on a Win8 system, you don't get the opportunity to press F10... and if you press F10 anyway, it does nothing... I'm about as surprised ...

Well, after getting the courage to try things out, I tested out Ubuntu 13.10 using my thumbdrive and Universal usb installer. Pressing F10 as my laptop boots gives me the boot options and choosing the usb drive made it all work properly. Strangely enough though, the first time around it still booted...

Install Mint to a 2.5” HDD (enclosure)?

Hello everybody, I'd like to hear some suggestions on this. This is gonna be my third time installing mint, but there's something that makes it different this time around. You see, not too long ago I got a Samsung laptop that came with Windows 8 preinstalled and then I updated it to 8.1. So far so g...

Yes I can! Says "bluez", 4.98-2ubuntu7 is the installed version. I'll uninstall it and tell you what happens :)

Edit: Yup, that did the trick. No more bluetooth for me. Maya 13 Xfce only using 10% of my memory now

Re: Which distro to use?

Sorry to insist with this bluetooth uninstalling thing, I just don't want to mess up. Doing a filter search on Synaptic gives me over 30 different results all related to blueetoth (graphical manager, support, tools, libraries...) so, what is safe to uninstall?

So HP are more "linux friendly"? Mine's an Epson Stylus that does actually sort of work. I can print, but it doesn't really give me any options to do so, like print just black and white or change the quality.

May I ask how do you get rid of the bluetooth stuff? I have absolutely no use for it since the old machine I installed Xfce to has no such hardware.

Re: Which version would you suggest?

Take a cup of coffee or 4, sit back and enjoy the new experience! (or you can watch a movie to kill the time....) And 4 (or maybe even more) cups of coffee later, every update is now finally installed. I'm very pleased with this so far, because everything's working the way it should, including the ...

Re: Which version would you suggest?

So, even a 2 gig USB drive will be more than enough ;-) Nomko and everybody else who suggested something in this thread, thank you very much. Finally installed Mint 13 Xfce in the old laptop and it's working pretty good so far! I just need to install the 574 recommended updates now and I believe I'...

Don't get cocky here! Such behaviour won't be tolerated here! Sorry about that, I did not intend to sound cocky, pretentious or anything like that. Will try to be more careful with my answers next time ^^ Just ran into a problem the original owner did not mention.. the optical drive won't read any ...

Re: Which distro to use?

You might try Mint 13 Xfce - it officially has support until 2017, so there's three more years. Reasonably low on the resource requirements Why do you suggest using 13 instead of 15? Was that version more stable? Is it just because of the PAE requirement? I would like to know a bit more since I'm a...

Re: Which version would you suggest?

Really???? You have 3 banks filled with 512mb RAM (or 2 banks: 1x 1Gig and 1x 512mb).... Anyway....1 gig minimum will do just fine to do normal stuff like email/internet/writing a letter to granny. I know, right? Blame the original owner of this thing though! I checked the RAM and the 2 banks have ...

Which version would you suggest?

Greetings to everybody, I just got my hands on an old laptop running Windows XP that likes to crash frequently. I was thinking of getting rid of XP and installing some flavor of Mint, but my question is: which one would you recommend? It's got a 80GBs harddrive, 1,49 GBs of RAM, integrated Intel vid...

Re: Is it possible to run Maya Cinnamon within WUBI?

So, if my understanding is correct, this loop1,2,3 business works only for .64bit and not .32bit? I'd suppose so, considering this "loop business" is for when you're installing Mint with mint4win , which only works with the 64-bit version according to the release notes. Does it also apply if you us...
