Re: DVD drive no longer recognized

Fixed it, I hope. I have 8 sata connectors on mobo. 4 sata 3, 4 sata 2. Apparently 2 of the sata 3 are controlled by the z77 chipset and the other 2 by an ASMedia chip. I have only used the z77 ports until now. My bios settings for the main 2 sata ports was set to AHCI, ok fine. I didn't notice the ...

DVD drive no longer recognized

I just this minute discovered this problem. I thought I would post it now and continue troubleshooting in case I don't resolve it in the next whatever minutes or hours. I installed a new hdd a few days ago. It is just sitting connected waiting for Mint 15 KDE rc which is now out. I downloaded that, ...

Re: KDE 4.10.4 will cause lots of error

4.10.4 works fine for me, also. So many variables. Welcome to Linux. It's confusing. It's compelling. It works. Get there, or get KDE-- my new motto.

Re: Mint KDE 15

I don't know. When it is done, it is done. That's fine by me. There are a whole lot of people working on this project that sure as heck are not getting no $100 per hour for their efforts. I'll bet they could if they so desired. Be happy it is what it is.

Re: [Mint 15] Choppy/stuttery sound playback on all players

Hi, Drachire, and welcome to the world of Linux. Win 7, they did the thinking for you,it had better work, you paid for it. Linux, you are a member, you help make it better just by posting a problem as you are. But, Linux is so variable, we need details, like what hardware, which Mint version, what d...

Re: laggy video problem

weezl, what a pain, what a pain. I connected to your first url, Project-free tv and found an episode of Continuum from Vidbull.com. It has been running in another Firefox tab for maybe 20 minutes. I started a post here shortly after I started the stream, but by accident, or user error, closed the Mi...

Re: Different Backgrounds On Different Desktops Not Possible

by jimwg on Wed Jun 19, 2013 1:10 am Thanks for replies all, but please slow down! I'm on XFCE not KDE and wish to assign specific wallpaper to specific workspaces (on one monitor) but I see no "virtual desktops" or folder view layouts in XFCE either, so the basic question is only KDE can...

Re: Linux Mint 15 ridiculously crashing/kernel panics

Have you ever pulled the heatsink and fan and cleaned them thoroughly and applied new thermal paste and reassembled? 6 years is a long time to build up crud and reduce efficiency. Doing this is easy and may be beneficial even if not the root cause.

They did not work for me with FF until I enabled cookies. Might be that simple.

Re: Different Backgrounds On Different Desktops Not Possible

Easy fix, just untick that box. However it seems to be needed for separate wallpapers and also I had to: right click desktop--default desktop settings--change 'layout' from default to folder view. I didn't try much, but it appears you can customize what you want for each virtual workspace. You just ...

Re: Different Backgrounds On Different Desktops Not Possible

Oh, heck. I opened system settings to virtual desktops and checked the box for 'different widgets for each desktop'. Well that changed my wallpaper to something I did not even have in my papers folder. I can't recall seeing this as a default KDE paper. Couple other thing chanded as well. I'm logging...

Re: Different Backgrounds On Different Desktops Not Possible

I'm not sure what everyone above was thinking, but I thought having a different wallpaper for every desktop workspace (same monitor) might be nice. Switching desktops and applying a new paper applies it to all. I first tried this 2 minutes ago, so I probably haven't tried everything in KDE.

I would think where Haswell is so new and does have some known issues that installing one of the very latest kernels would help. If you can get to that point.

Re: Burn true audio CD (not WAV) in Brasero

You might want to try K3b. That's KDE's burning program. I think you can find quite a few threads here where people have compared the 2 apps and preferred K3b. I do. I have not burned a true audio cd, but have burned a few mp3 dvd's. They work. On the computer of course. K3b does have a 'new audio c...

Re: Inkscape--held broken packages

I managed to find an Ubuntu thread and a Gimp thread where people stated rather emphatically that Inkscape is 32 bit only, although I couldn't find that info on the Inkscape home page. If that is what all this is about, just another 32 bit app that needs 32 bit libs then I'm ok with that. I just won...

Inkscape--held broken packages

Tried to install Inkscape a day or 2 ago in Synaptic and got the held broken packages error. Have not tried to install something else to see if it related to only Inkscape. I'll attach a text file with my notes so far. Haven't looked into this beyond my notes in that text file. OK, can't upload the ...

I use KDE, but the idea may be similar. My default wallpapers, the ones that came with Mint are at /usr/share/wallpapers. Any images I find on the net of course I save to my own wallpapers folder in /home. If you have a filename and can't seem to find it, maybe the terminal command locate ________ w...
