Re: torrent client not working after pc reboot.

I guess this isnt overly helpful, but why are you running an unsupported OS?

I believe that Mint 11 is EOL. And quite old, perhaps your problems may be caused by some unsupported software intereacting in a strange way

I currently like the middle mouse button function as it stands. I use it all the time, highlight some text and then press the middle mouse button.

It acts like copy-paste which, as I said, I use a ton

Re: Remote Control a live System

This suggestion is cheap (as in not the most technically awsome). I use chromium with the remote desktop plugin. Its easy to explain how to install chromium, and other than that you choose whether you want help or you are helping someone else.

They read you the code and viola, your in

Re: wireless network does not work

I found references to this chipset. Apparently the fix was previously to get the firmware from upstream sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/RTL8192SU/ cd /lib/firmware/RTL8192SU/ sudo wget http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/kernel/dists/trunk/firmware-nonfree/realtek/RTL8192SU/rtl8192sfw.bin Reboot and see if it picks...

Re: Sharing files from a "Mounted" HDD

please use [code] tags for posting output. There is a little code button at the top of the reply window. As for NTFS for your 939 DATA drive, yes that makes a difference as you will have to change the fstab section "ext4" to "ntfs" For reference I dont believe testparm will do an...

Re: Sharing files from a "Mounted" HDD

Hi stratus. Thanks for your kind reply to my forum question(s) Yes, I would like some guidance on *permanently* mounting my second (non O.S.) Hard Drive I have previously named *939 DATA*. Editing /etc/fstab is something I have never tried before, so any instruction would be welcomed and appreciate...

is this USB or a pci card? if usb: lsusb If pci lspci This will at least tell us if its being detected at the hardware level. If it is, it should be a matter of finding the correct driver. I cant find the wireless card you indicated on either

or

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers

It may need some more investigation to find out what chipset this card uses

Re: Sharing files from a "Mounted" HDD

Part of this is related to how the system mounts the drives. When you are in Nemo/Files/Nautilus and you click on a drive to mount it will mount /media/... (usually). Since /media is a dynamic area (its used to mount devices that are external) it makes it more difficult for a beginner to share it ou...

Re: How to improve a home network - LDAP, authenticated NFS.

Generally speaking, any place that I have ever worked restricts NFS by IP only. AutoFS may be the route to go with per-user authentication (though I am unsure how to tie this into a directory service), but again most places I have ever seen use Samba as the per-user mount. For tying Samba into LDAP,...

Re: Linux Mint 15 boots to GRUB prompt on W7 dual install

Can you also post your fstab as well as the output from:

Code: Select all

ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/

Also I need the boot.log from the actual environment. The one you posted looks to be for the live cd. You will need to mount your root partition in the live environment to extract this.

Thanks

I should have been more clear. I experienced your exact issue, some of the FN keys worked as expected but the brightness did not. This is what I was not so elequently refering to: http://linuxon1001p.blogspot.ca/2010/03/fixing-brightness-controls.html Looking down this path is what I would suggest. ...

Re: Linux Mint 15 boots to GRUB command line on W7 dual inst

What exactly does "boot to the command line" mean? Do you mean a grub prompt, or you get your regular login, but the X Window System does not start?

Can you post your /var/log/boot.log, and your grub.cfg files?

The first step is to attempt to figure out where it is failing. After you press the power button on your computer, hold the "shift" key to access the grub menu. (I am working from memory here so please correct as you see on the screen). Next hit "e" to edit, go near the bottom an...
