Re: How to fsck usb storage drive?

I had a problematic USB stick recently. Gparted did not fix it. The tool "Disks" has Check and Repair functions and that worked a treat!
Menu > Settings > Disks
Select the disk, then click on the cog icon, select "Check Filesystem", followed by "Repair Filesystem".

Re: No interfaces in wireshark for normal user after update to LM19

You just need to add your user to the wireshark group. Mine worked fine after this. Use the "Users and Groups" menu, or do it in terminal: sudo usermod -a -G wireshark YOUR_USER_NAME Then logout or reboot. Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If that ...

Software Manager repeats dialogs - caching issue?

I'm on the new Linux Mint 19 XFCE 64bit and it all works great! The only small issue I have found, is with the Software Manager. When installing an application, it can ask for a password 2 or more times. Also dialogs that appear asking if its ok to install additional files may appear 2 or more times...

Re: [SOLVED-sorta] Linux Mint v18.10 cannot see other computers on LAN

On the default hosts file in Linux Mint, the machine name IP is 127.0.1.1 which is different to that of localhost 127.0.0.1
I would use that on your Mint machines.

Re: Updating to the newest drivers crashes cinnamon

How can I make it stop paying attention to nvidia -304 updates?
Too easy...

Open the "Update Manager" from panel
Menu: Edit > Preferences
Click "Ignore Updates" tab
Click "+Add" button
Enter "nvidia-304" (without quotes)
Click "OK" button
Click "Apply" button

Done!

Re: Suddenly soundcards don't work

Hi, I'm not on KDE, but in Mate or Cinnamon, the first place to check is the Sound applet Preferences > Sound Check the "Output" tab for multiple devices, and see if there is an option to disable the unpreferred device/s (could be interferring). Normally the switching of graphics and sound on an Opt...

Re: Updating to the newest drivers crashes cinnamon

I got mine fixed. With the new nvidia-367 driver I could not get the nvidia card to de-activate, so ran hot. Reverting to nvidia-340 using Driver Manager didn't do the trick. This process worked for me, dirty approach: 1. Use Driver Manager to select nouveau (default) driver 2. Issue command "sudo a...

Re: Problem with login into the forum

I still get insecure (mixed) content, the console shows its the avatars with http urls not https. To solve this I would allow avatar uploads, which will display as https, or use a service that provides https avatars.

Some more feed back for Linux Mint webmasters: I logged in for first time since the hack. I then proceeded to change password as requested. After saving the change, normally I should get logged out, but instead got redirected to: https://forums.linuxmint.com/ucp.php?i=ucp_profile&mode=reg_details wh...

Re: Dual monitors on a Dell T7500 with latest MATE desktop

I have seen this issue in Mate, and changed it using dconf-editor. Dconf-editor allows modification of desktop features, behind the scenes - this means plenty of extra settings to play with! Install it from Software Center or by command: sudo apt-get install dconf-editor Open it from Menu > System T...

Re: Optimus Graphics works great - Mint 17.2

I hadn't noticed that was a new feature from 17.2, since I just upgraded from 17.1 ans was already using nvidia-prime with prime-indicator. But since I did upgrade to 17.2, I am now unable to switch GPU, it's always on the Intel GPU, but always shows the nvidia logo in the "system tray". I'm no Lin...
