Secure Boot Live USB - Security Violation due to recent SHIM updates
I had to search, trying to work out what happened, and how to fix it. Booting Mint from live USB worked perfectly until this week. This problem may be specific to my hardware, but others may have a similar problem, so I needed to post this. CONDITIONS - Secure Boot ACTIVE (no legacy) - The internal ...

Re: How to change permissions on an external drive
In your first post, the drive is ext4 format, in your next post, the drive appears as ntfs format.
If you are trying to solve a problem, keep all parameters the same, and change things one at a time to isolate.
I gave you the standard way its done in linux.

Re: I can't change the speed of all fans
Hi Aquerra, I had some luck with this on my previous Dell notebook, using Thermald. You seem to be able to get the required readings, from sensors and fans. Thermald is already installed, with less than perfect defaults. You can create a config file for it, to link sensors to cooling devices (fans) ...

Re: Xed Really Slow
Xed has been like this for me since LM19. Some text files would even refuse to load (especially larger files), and bork the entire system. Trying to view kern.log was impossible. I usually resorted to nano which does not suffer these problems. @Hugh Neutron - Thanks for tip about medit, I just insta...

Re: eMail tracking (thunderbird or similar) on linux mint 20
Yes, images are a way to track email opening. If the user blocks image loading on email, you won't be able to track it.
If sending from Thunderbird, you could also try return receipts:
Thunderbird > Preferences > Account Settings > Return Receipts

Re: Moving up to kernel 5.x.x-xx
As yours is an older machine, best to stick with your current kernel.
Benefits of the newer kernel are realised with new (recent) machines.

Re: [Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon] Unable to use click on taskbar and the minimise/maximise/close buttons of various windows
Ok, if you have definitely narrowed it down to the keyboard, you are on the way... Troubleshooting USB problems can be difficult, maybe someone with good experience, could step in and help. For now, what I could suggest is: try different USB ports to see if they behave better try plugging in the key...

Menu > Edit > Preferences ufw Logging: Low/Med/High Then after you try to connect and get blocked, there should be an entry in the log showing IP address and port details. Check the log at: /var/log/ufw.log You will see there th...
