Re: GOG.com will officially support Linux Mint fall this yea

I'm really pleased about this :) So, we now have Steam, Humble and Desura and GOG.com...

Wonder what the first 100 games will be? And also if they'll be converting any titles that don't already have native Linux clients?

Re: Eschelon book III [RPG] is available for Linux!

Not had a chance to try this one yet, although I love Eschalon I and II. They were the first Linux games I bought as I wanted something cross-platform, Old School and RPG-y :)

Have you had a go yet? And if so, how does it compare to the first two?

Re: Steam for Linux Games Increases by 900%

Yeah, it actually seems to have taken off in a far bigger way than I expected. I think due credit should also be given to Humble Bundle for insisting on Linux ports, and also dev kits like Unity and MonoDevelop that make it easy for Indies to port to Linux in a reasonably consistent way, but Steam's...

Re: How to make Linux more successful on the desktop?

Well, you tried :D In teaching the one thing we had to remember at all times was the 'you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink' - you go mad otherwise! You raised a very pertinent point though, because it relates directly to the 'should we dumb it all down in the rush to success?' ...

Re: Why is community.linuxmint.com so unfriendly?

I at times feel they are a bit heavy handed at the community. They thrash silly newbie ideas. Where is the encouragement? I mean there are better ways to put one's views out there other than being rude. OK, you just put in one line of text something that I took hundreds of words to say... :D

Re: Why is community.linuxmint.com so unfriendly?

Completely agree. Some members of community are terse and miserable to the point where I almost find it offensive at times, but most are OK. I think the biggest problem is that it's not entirely clear what the community site is 'for' or how it works, and I agree that's something that needs to be cla...

Re: How to make Linux more successful on the desktop?

So interacting and working with humans over the last 40 years has made me "disliking humankind and avoiding human society" ...Stuff... That I don't have the PC Everything Rosy view about humanity and point out our flaws yes I Have Them Too! For me is a responsibility to be as honest and f...

Re: How to make Linux more successful on the desktop?

That's cool...by the way, by default, i wasn't crazy about the large icons on unity, either...however, that can easily be adjusted in the system settings...I have a 17" laptop i use as a desktop replacement and i shrink the icons down to 38 pixels which to me seems just right (you can make the...

Re: How to make Linux more successful on the desktop?

Don't worry, be happy! Win7x is fine, not so sure about win8x We can't change anyone's mind about what they use, even if we have a cheaper or more useful product selection list available: LibreOffice 4x for most is enough of a suite to compete with Ms Office, now that Apple has given up on that ven...

Re: How to make Linux more successful on the desktop?

No offense but if i see a comment like this one more time i think i shall scream: "Ubuntu's big mistake was forcing people to use the 'Unity' desktop environment, a Touch-based interface. Whereas it's not as unusable as Windows 8 on a desktop, it still got in the way of enough users to see the...

Re: Windows XP/8 and the effect on Linux

The less friendly one was going to argue forever about why Win8 was better even thought I had stated clearly that it was Win7 or no sale, and he told me I wouldn't be able to buy a laptop without Win8 anywhere else. Got the same thing myself at a Leading UK PC Store That Will Remain Nameless. Bunch...

Re: How to make Linux more successful on the desktop?

Linux is not an OS but rather a kernel on which many distributions are based. Linux desktop was a total mess which you still can notice on many distros like Fedora a Opensuse. On these distros for no clear reason you don't even have window controls and you have to go throgh the "River of the D...

Eww, no buttugly solid-colour lego block themes on Mint, please. It already looks horrible enough on win8, we don't need to jump on that bandwagon... 10- More Cinnamon effects like desktop cube and transparent window Implemented here http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/extensions/view/25 http://s1...

Re: Mint Installer needs inmprovements

Personally I prefer to set the bare minimum options and then let the installation continue whilst I have a coffee or get on with something else, but choosing which apps to install/not bother with by allowing users to untick unwanted ones from a list may be useful I think, and also help cut down on i...

Re: Mint forums - new interface

Telligent Evolution would probably do everything we need (Blogs, Forums, Wiki etc), except it's ASP.NET based, not open source, and costs a bomb. worked with it before. I quite liked it though. OK, a rather unhelpful suggestion maybe  But yeah, I think we could do a lot with the mint sites jus...

What xenopeek said regarding having the OS getting out of the way, plus a degree of polish. :) I like the simple, almost minimal design aesthetic of Mint, the fact that it works out of the box, it's stable, plays nicely with games and productive applications. I've got it set up with a dark theme I c...

Re: Mint forums - new interface

Well, you could always do what we've done where I work before now: just reskin it with new CSS to make it *look* new :D

I had to do that with a creaky old Community Server forum, which generated up to seven layers of tables within tables. That was a fun couple of days. :D

Re: The ultimate dream Cinnamon roadmap for Linux Mint 17

I can't see why most developers stand against new ideas on this forum when they're suggested by ordinary users but I can see that most of them clap and dance when they very ideas are implemented by the dev. team. Take the following suggestions for instances: 1- add format optin to nemo: I suggested...
