cheers for reply i do autohide my panel but sometimes i have a lot of programs & internet pages open at the same time so to hide or move off the panel would be best option for my needs i just started playing with java(just a noob though) how about if i created a second panel and somehow linked it to...

im using cinnimon, proberbly should have mentioned that :)
when i right click it just says remove applet, i do still want to use the task bar though
can i install just the mate panel

i auto load a few programs when the computer boots and was wondering is there a way to hide them so that they don't appear in the panel bar.

anyway the way i fixed it was to rip out my hard drive and put it in a friends computer and run a chkdsk then it worked fine

so ur saying i need to install windows 7, then download windows 8, turn off quick start, then format my computer again to remove windows
surely there is an easier way

hi
you need to go to sound preferences
configure hardware and output manually to hdmi, once u get ur sound working you should only need to change output when your swapping back
as for the speeding up not sure how to fix that

hey all
is there a program that I can use to link commands in terminal, that u don't have to be a rocket scientist to use?
for example
sudo apt-get update + sudo apt-get upgrade, to = sudo apt-get uptodate
so I can string my own commands together
