Re: Thread for those experiencing freezes in Maya/Mate.
Same here, 3.3.6 SOLVED it, but after moving to 3.4.6, the freeze came back. I'm sticking with it though, due to it's general superiority and much less frequent freezes than 3.2.6. I just couldn't stand to see my system idling at 57C. The much lower temperature of 45C is irresistible.

Re: Can't remove firefox without installing other debris?
Thanks for the reply. The explanation suffices, but I still fear a future pullulation of dependencies; though I guess this forum is the wrong tree to bark up.

Can't remove firefox without installing other debris?
I get the following ludicrous message when attempting to remove firefox: ~ # apt-get remove firefox Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following extra packages will be installed: epiphany-browser epiphany-browser-data evince gir1.2-clutter-1....

Re: Thread for those experiencing freezes in Maya/Mate.
Thanks ingeva, I've tried your advice and hope it works. There is also something worth mentioning, though it is a bit confusing. I had gone without a freeze for nearly a week of constant use, until... Until I did a partial update, which included a new addition of firefox. Suddenly, the system was fr...

Re: Thread for those experiencing freezes in Maya/Mate.
I opened another instance of Firefox through the menu as you suggested and had no problems. I have little doubt that it may do it for you, but this is probably all way beyond browsers. Freezes continue for me, but rarely and seemingly randomly.

Re: CPU Idles at 31% - Never Below
For some reason I don't remember cpufreq monitor applet ever (at least not for me) being fixed on any particular number when set to OnDemand -- and it's been years!. I guess I got confused by taking it literally, especially after sensors displayed my core temperature at 52C when relatively idle. I f...

Re: Thread for those experiencing freezes in Maya/Mate.
@KBD47 Regarding the suspend bug you mentioned, have you looked at this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=103530 ?? I am also right on the edge of looking for an alternative OS, but have not had the best of luck running Arch Linux on laptops. If this bug persists, I'll give Arch ...

Re: Thread for those experiencing freezes in Maya/Mate.
Running Maya with Mate and occasionally having system freezes where all but the mouse-cursor becomes dysfunctional. The cursor has movement but no effect and no other input of any sort is accepted, of course, including Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and power button. Hard reboot via sustained holding of the pow...

@kmb42vt
Point well taken, but I am tired of it all for now and will let someone else open the thread. I shan't post here again.

Re: CPU Idles at 31% - Never Below
I knew this was coming and refrained from prophylactically defending myself against it. I know quite well how to use top, but find it silly when System Monitor is a mere click away and does not update itself at rates prohibiting coherent examination. Don't get me wrong, I love CLI and kneel humbly b...

CPU Idles at 31% - Never Below
My CPU idles at 31% with a pretty constant temperature of 47c. I presently have CPU Frequency Scaling active and set to On Demand . The available spectrum ranges from 800MHz to 2.5GHz and aside from my i5 never indicating "Turbo Boost", it never scales below 800MHz either, regardless of pr...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
Hi, This doesn't seem to be related to cinnamon nor to mate, i have installed xfce4 and it hangs the same as soon as I open a new page with firefox. Reconfigured MDM and tried 32 and 64 bits version of linux mint 13 Mate and it gives the same. From what I see, the issue is either related to the vid...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
Thanks. It seems to much for me. I will wait for an official solution. Until then I will be working with ugly MATE I am beginning to feel like a ghost. That comment and another a few places below it, indicates that users are still under the impression that this bug excludes Mate. For the many'th ti...

Having the same issue. I see something about "broken pipe", nm-? (network-manager ?), and occasionally pulse-audio.

Re: Total GUI hang (except mouse), what?
Having similar issues myself on Maya (Mate), using an Asus K53E (Intel i5). Check this out: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=103054 -- It's a pretty popular thread and covers what seems the same issue. There appear no universally valid conclusions yet, at 13 pages and 7,500+ view...

"There seem to be quite a few variants of the system freezing, which are probably completely unrelated. Hopefully the above will help those out with multiple graphic cards. But check the gnome-system-log. For those with the "mdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0" ...

I tried this but I was unable to set my graphics.I will try to find ubuntu kernel patched with vgaswitchero. Ok. Now I'm really cur...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
One test i did : install a gnome-independent D.E and no crashes (openoffice insert table + vlc fullscreen + java applications successfully test ). So i think that MDM should not be the main culprit here (mostly Cinnamon badly interacting with something_TM). CoreI5/750 / 4 gig / Nvidia drivers / 32b...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
IMHO it smells like a cinnamon bug... No, it smells nothing like Cinnamon, but of Mint. I am using Mate and suffer freezes every single day. While I may continue to use Mint, my resentment grows, especially as the views for this issue mount into the thousands (2,105 right now) while being ignored b...
