Re: How do I make a filetype-associated hierarchical menu?

What's the primary application launcher for Xfce?
the Applications Menu.
RightClick (RC) on an empty area of the panel, then
> Panel > Panel Preferences > Items > +
then Add the Applications Menu to panel,
either by Add or Drag'n'Drop.

Re: Various problems with XFCE Rebecca

6) Dropbox icon isn't visible after install? it used to be but now I cannot get it there.
For me in 17.1, the Dropbox icon is only visible when Xfce4 compositing is off; when turned on, the icon disappears. Could be that Compiz has a similar problem.

Re: Tasks running before they are launched? ...How?

Thank you so much, Richy. I'm running 'htop' now. It does supply more info than does 'Task Manager', but not much more. I see that right-click freezes the update. Is there any way to copy the display to the clipboard? No, doesn't seem to be available. Cut'n'Paste doesn't work in Task Manager either...

Re: Task Manager: Terminate or Stop or Kill?

@markfilipak The next level is to google for Alt+SysReq R,S,E,I,S,U,B. or, go here: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key" It's effectiveness depends on it's having been compiled into the kernel. LMint seems to have it, at least the last: Alt+SysReq+b does reboot my system. which i...

Re: Tasks running before they are launched? ...How?

Is this is bug in 'xfce4-taskmanager'? or in 'launcher-6'? or are tasks put on 'Launcher' pre-loaded? If you started xfce4-taskmanager and then closed it, it stays in the task bar tray as an icon. To actually remove it, right click the icon and exit it. I don't remember about the others, but if you...

Re: Task Manager: Terminate or Stop or Kill?

What's the difference between 'Terminate' & 'Stop' & 'Kill'? Start with the first, Terminate. If that doesn't do the job, go to the next level, then the next. "kill 9" is not as disruptive/destructive as "kill 15" If none of those work, then hold the power switch for abo...

Re: Add a HOT Key to lauch Whisker Menu in XFCE

@herbie643,
It's not really a command, but a keystroke combination that performs an action.
For example: Alt-F3 brings up the Application Finder.
I created Super-w that brings up the WhiskerMenu.

Please explain what you did.
What you entered and what was the result.

Re: Turned wireless off. Can not turn it back on. Mint 13 Ci

Maybe I didn't read everything through, but I once had a similar problem.
Then I realized I hadn't turned the physical wireless switch back on.
That is simpler to solve.
I have a netbook that keeps the state of the switch after shutdow.

Re: Add a HOT Key to lauch Whisker Menu in XFCE

Umm. Works for me. I installed the quantal whiskermenu from the dev site onto Maya-LTS-Xfce. You have to use the GUI. Open the Settings page as follows: Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts > Add: Paste or type xfce4-popup-whiskermenu then click OK. Then it asks that you enter a key or a key ...

fsarchiver will do what you wish: http://www.fsarchiver.org/Main_Page There does exist a GUI version. http://sourceforge.net/projects/qt4-fsarchiver/ I've actually only ever used the console or CLI version. It will do everything you wish. But you'll need to practice a bit to understand, while you ar...

Re: Removing Ubuntu after installing LinuxMint

That means you'll have to boot a LiveCD in order to remove those logical partitions. If you really want to get rid of Windows XP, I'd suggest you back up all your data that you don't want to lose and reformat the whole thing. You can have 3 primary partitions and 1 extended partition which can conta...

Re: Install linux mint (or any other) on usb-pendrive "not l

and just one more thought:
reinstalled using LinuxMint 13 Xfce LTS.
Seems quicker on the USB and hopefully easier to maintain.

NOTE: Didn't work too well for me.
Might just be my equipment?
The process has worked well for me
with Debian, Peppermint, SolydX, & LinuxMint.

Re: Install linux mint (or any other) on usb-pendrive "not l

As mentioned above, it may help if you run gparted first and create the desired partitions on the USB. I recently installed LM15-Xfce on a 64 GiB pen drive as follows: / ext2 of 20GiB; /DATL ext2 of 39 GiB; and swap of 1 GiB. YMMV. NOTE: You can format /DATL to fat32, ntfs or whatever you need. Boot...

I had the same problem when I tried to install using the "live" version of LM 14 Xfce: choice #1.
When I selected Choice #2, "Install to hard disk", it installed as expected with no errors.

Re: Weird partitioning?

Yes, that seems about right for the automatic partitioning.
For a first install it is interesting.
Probably want to install again, choosing to Do Something Else,
which will let you partition as you wish.
