Re: help! strange and slow boot, black screen with "letters"
Welcome to Mint Please read the simple rules in the link in the red box on top of the page If it takes six minutes to boot there is definitely something wrong and probably with the live CD/DVD Did you check the md5sum and burned slowly? But if it works fine once booted - should I understand you that...

Re: Weird result when adding users and groups
You forgot about /etc/passwd Your user is stored there (well not the user himself :) - I discovered the ambiguity right after I typed) Some references http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/understanding-etcpasswd-file-format/ http://docstore.mik.ua/orelly/networking/puis/ch04_01.htm http://www.yolinux.com/TU...

Re: Automount at boot a NTFS Bios raid drive
I must confess that "long ago" I used to have RAID1 in Win98 and later WinXP Then I discovered that new motherboards were useless - RAID 1 worked, but it was (is?) impossible to use the not failed disk in a disk crash to build a new RAID because building a new RAID destroys all data on both disks Oh...

I doubt I get much further, and I know you are not alone with these small, but annoying, interrupts
Code: Select all
echo "blacklist ndiswrapper" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Re: Mint Menu causes zombie processes??
To be honest I've never seen a report about this before Searching the forum for zombie+mintmenu finds two topics where a process started by mintMenu becomes zombie but none where mintMenu itself becomes zombie Zombies are not that much of a problem especially if the zombie process has N/A associated...

Re: help requested : asus usb wifi adapter in Helena Main
I have yet not seen a laptop that does not have some sort of on/off switch for the wifi
You have to find that and switch off the internal or use it
Does the internal wifi work? You are not clear on that

Re: /dev/disk/by-uuid/#### not found, drops to a shell?
I suppose you use grub2 (and you do, unless you have upgraded) and it's still new and unfamiliar I've found what probably is the solution, but in a Catch 22 manner you need to boot to make it work when I ran a live cd and looked at it with partition editor that my mint and swap partitions no longer ...

Re: Help - Why does GRUB appear in this scenario?
Sorry for the late answer - I must give other duties priority for a while I got 'GRUB loading. error: no such disk' - but I don't understand WHY. Mint wasn't installed onto the hard drive to begin with, and this message appears regardless of whether the flash card is in the slot or not. This means t...
