Re: turn off unwanted services

Yes it does. The easiest was to do it is to change 'S**' to 'K**' in your /etc/rc2.d dir. But also they invented some new stuff that bum cannot change. :D Check this out... Did you noticed that you system is calling modem manager while it's booting ? :D Go to /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services and re...

Re: Boot loader problem

I'm not sure I understand you. You have two drives. On drive one is ubuntu and on the other is linux mint. You wanna boot from your second drive but you can't switch it as bootable drive while it's not recognized by the bios ?

Re: inter tty in order to enter kde desktop

I don't have a such card but you can try to set nomodeset to you boot parameters. When it comes to grub press e and you will be able to edit your boot options. Under the line starting with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=... you will see some text written. You can add to this line nomodeset and hit F10 t...

No, I don't. It should work out of the box. The problem might be in boot parameters or missing some. Do you know what your boot parameters are?

Re: Upgrading from Mint 12 to Mint14 w/win7 dual boot

Well you can always manually change your source list and put new ubuntu version in it and upgrade your system. Done it once, it works, at least it did, but I don't recommend anyone to do it.

Re: inter tty in order to enter kde desktop

You have a problem with you X server. It's started at boot by default but if there is some problem with it, mostly with your graphics card, it can't be started so you are throw to console to fix it. What kind of graphic card do you have ?

Re: Upgrading from Mint 12 to Mint14 w/win7 dual boot

Linux Mint is not rolling distribution. That mean that you have to install it every time new version of Linux Mint is out. To avoid this you can use LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) and you don't have to worry about installing again. But LMDE is based on Debian and LM is based on Ubuntu. So the answ...

Re: Preserving touchscreen on reboot

Update: After shutting down the laptop and rebooting, the touchschreen was gone again. This time I did some searching that indicated putting something like "sleep 10" at the start of rc.local would prevent it from executing too soon. I tried this, shut down and rebooted, and now the touch...

Re: Preserving touchscreen on reboot

Thanks, ddaniel. I just tried that, but the touchscreen didn't get recognized (i.e., I didn't notice any difference). Might this have something to do with needing to use "sudo" with "inputattach"? But it should work. Can you run rc.local when you log in? ie cd /etc; sudo ./rc.lo...

Re: Opengl/3D/... not working on Intel Graphic Card

FYI : I downloaded and installed the most recent dirvers from http://ppa.launchpad.net/oibaf/graphics-drivers/ubuntu but still it won't work. From all you posted I will say that you have a bit old comp and you are using the most recent kernel and optimized display drivers from ppa. This can cause p...

You can't use it because your 3d acceleration doesn't work.

Re: Installed native ATI drivers, cannot get Cinnamon to run

Okey. Can you remove fglrx driver with sudo apt-get autoremove fglrx and than reboot. You will remove fglrx driver and load open source when you reboot your machine. Don't forget to remove xorg.conf file from /etc/X11 Than follow this tutorial http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=119...
