Re: Digikam problems after upgrade to Mint 19

After resetting the file and directory permissions, cleaning up the database, uninstalling and reinstalling Digikam, it still did not show all my photos. I then decided to give darktable a try. After being overwhelmed by the functions of darktable, I could get good results in processing photos, some...

Re: Digikam problems after upgrade to Mint 19

I have done the maintenance several times, without success. I tried the Digikam AppImage, without success. For the images where the installed Digikam 5.6.0 shows nothing (just a blue rectangle when I click on it), the AppImage version shows the file type (like JPG), and a gray thumbnail. But just li...

Re: Digikam problems after upgrade to Mint 19

I doubt if the hardware or USB devices are causing this problem, as I don't have any other problems. My computer running is solid and stable. Here are the results of the commands you asked for. I will try to uninstall and reinstall Digikam before trying the AppImage installation. (I will first try t...

Digikam problems after upgrade to Mint 19

Hello, After upgrading to Mint 19 Tara (Cinnamon edition), Digikam is not working properly. In many albums the thumbnails are empty. They are there, I can click on them and see the stars and other buttons (see attached image). I can also open the context menu. But when I try to open the image using ...

Re: Window borders of Clearlooks-Phenix Metacity theme not working in Mint 19

Thanks, I already saw those themes. For now I started with a copy of the Mint-Y metacity file. I added a colour for the title bar of a focused window. I have to fine-tune it: button icons, maybe top border (has a small white line now), readability of title font. Attached is the first result so far.

Window borders of Clearlooks-Phenix Metacity theme not working in Mint 19

Hello, Up to Mint 18.3 I was using the Metacity theme Clearlooks-Phenix . One of the reasons to use it, is the window title bar color of the focused window. Unfortunately in Mint 19 this theme no longer works. According to the github repo the theme supports GTK up to version 3.20. Mint 19 uses 3.22....

Re: Can not install VirtualBox 5.2 after upgrading to Linux Mint 19 Tara

Bionic: that's the trick. I had artful in the URL. I did not try bionic, because Download VirtualBox for Linux Hosts only mentions: According to your distribution, replace '<mydist>' with 'artful', 'zesty', 'yakkety', 'xenial', 'trusty', 'stretch', 'jessie', or 'wheezy' I missed that galaxy0815 alre...

Re: Can not install VirtualBox 5.2 after upgrading to Linux Mint 19 Tara

This is correct: deb [arch=amd64] http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian bionic non-free contrib (If you have a 64 bit machine) apt-get install virtualbox-5.2 virtualbox-ext-pack Sorry, typo from my side (typed the url in my post, instead of copy/pasting). I did not have the architecture ...

[SOLVED] Can not install VirtualBox 5.2 after upgrading to Linux Mint 19 Tara

Hello, Today I did an upgrade from Mint 18.3 to 19. The upgrade ran without problems. I just discovered that VirtualBox 5.2 was removed. When I tried to install it (using the repositories of virtualbox.org, a message appeared that it could not be installed, because of the following missing requireme...

[SOLVED] Why is version of linux-kernel-generic lower than actual kernel used?

Currently I am running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon. Kernel version is 4.13.0-45-generic (according to uname -r). Synaptic showed there were a lot of kernels installed, probably caused by successive updates. I uninstalled three versions of linux-headers-(version), linux-headers-(version)-generic, linux-...

Re: Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

I tried the text-scaling-factor in dconf-editor. I only saw an effect in Writer, not in Evince. Based on the description the scaling-factor would come close, but unfortunately that only accepts integers. (The description of the text-scaling-factor says the same, but it does accept fractions.) Anyway...

Re: Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

I know Ctrl-Plus, it is setting the zoom factor. That is not what I am looking for. What I want is select zoom 100%, and then have the document displayed at its actual size. Ctrl-Plus and Ctrl-Minus in Evince zoom in and out, but don't give me a 114% zoom that is required to view a document at its a...

Re: Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

Yes, but there I can only set the screen resolution, but that is already set to the monitor's native resolution (2560 x 1440).
The only other option there is rotation.
There is no possibility to set the DPI value.

Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

Hello, How can I set my monitor's dpi value in Cinnamon? My monitor has 109 dpi (27" 2560 x 1440). When viewing documents at 100% (in Writer or Evince for example) they are shown too small. The size of fonts and icons in the userinterface is fine. User interface scaling only shows the options Normal...

Re: bash SHELL environment variable not set

That's it. The two accounts that had the problem did have no default shell specified (although they were using bash according to the output of ps $$). Adding /bin/bash solved the problem.

Thank you very much!

Re: bash SHELL environment variable not set

@LinuxJim As far as I remember I used the adduser command. The command env | grep -i shell gives SHELL= for the account which has the problem, and SHELL=/bin/bash for the other account. The account that has the environment variable set is the account made during install. The two accounts I created ...

[Solved] bash SHELL environment variable not set

Hello, I am running Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64-bit. There are three accounts defined. One of these has an environment variable SHELL defined as /bin/bash. The other two don't have this variable set. This causes a dircolors warning message when starting a terminal, which is not a big problem. A big ...

Re: Mint 17.2 No Tablet Detected (wacom) [Kernel 3.19 issue]

What do you mean with that? Do you have to refresh the package list manually? I have had to do that always. I switched from Ubuntu when Mint 13 was the active version. In Ubuntu I would automatically get update notifications. In Mint I always have to press the Refresh button in the Update applicatio...
