[SOLVED] Why is version of linux-kernel-generic lower than actual kernel used?

Currently I am running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon. Kernel version is 4.13.0-45-generic (according to uname -r). Synaptic showed there were a lot of kernels installed, probably caused by successive updates. I uninstalled three versions of linux-headers-(version), linux-headers-(version)-generic, linux-...

Hello, I am the OP of this thread. For me the bump helped me find out that in Cinnamon the window borders now can have their own ...

Re: Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

I tried the text-scaling-factor in dconf-editor. I only saw an effect in Writer, not in Evince. Based on the description the scaling-factor would come close, but unfortunately that only accepts integers. (The description of the text-scaling-factor says the same, but it does accept fractions.) Anyway...

Re: Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

I know Ctrl-Plus, it is setting the zoom factor. That is not what I am looking for. What I want is select zoom 100%, and then have the document displayed at its actual size. Ctrl-Plus and Ctrl-Minus in Evince zoom in and out, but don't give me a 114% zoom that is required to view a document at its a...

Re: Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

Yes, but there I can only set the screen resolution, but that is already set to the monitor's native resolution (2560 x 1440).
The only other option there is rotation.
There is no possibility to set the DPI value.

Set monitor dpi (NOT font and icon size) in Cinnamon

Hello, How can I set my monitor's dpi value in Cinnamon? My monitor has 109 dpi (27" 2560 x 1440). When viewing documents at 100% (in Writer or Evince for example) they are shown too small. The size of fonts and icons in the userinterface is fine. User interface scaling only shows the options Normal...

Re: bash SHELL environment variable not set

That's it. The two accounts that had the problem did have no default shell specified (although they were using bash according to the output of ps $$). Adding /bin/bash solved the problem.

Thank you very much!

Re: bash SHELL environment variable not set

@LinuxJim As far as I remember I used the adduser command. The command env | grep -i shell gives SHELL= for the account which has the problem, and SHELL=/bin/bash for the other account. The account that has the environment variable set is the account made during install. The two accounts I created ...

[Solved] bash SHELL environment variable not set

Hello, I am running Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64-bit. There are three accounts defined. One of these has an environment variable SHELL defined as /bin/bash. The other two don't have this variable set. This causes a dircolors warning message when starting a terminal, which is not a big problem. A big ...

Re: Mint 17.2 No Tablet Detected (wacom) [Kernel 3.19 issue]

What do you mean with that? Do you have to refresh the package list manually? I have had to do that always. I switched from Ubuntu when Mint 13 was the active version. In Ubuntu I would automatically get update notifications. In Mint I always have to press the Refresh button in the Update applicatio...

Re: Mint 17.2 No Tablet Detected (wacom) [Kernel 3.19 issue]

Re: Mint 17.2 No Tablet Detected (wacom) [Kernel 3.19 issue]

I just installed 17.3 from scratch. The tablet is now working. There are two problems: 1. Since I am lefthanded I changed the orientation. I can't do that now, since the settings applet still doesn't work. I resored my home directory, but apparently the settings are stored elsewhere. Does anybody no...

Re: Move the dialog window back to the titlebar [SOLVED]

Many thanks for this tip!

I hate the fixed dialog windows! To me it seems like a totally useless option.
If I want to drag the dialog window into another position (for example because I want to read something that is hidden by it) I don't want the parent window to move along with it.

Re: Mint 17.2 No Tablet Detected (wacom) [Kernel 3.19 issue]

I just tried the instructions in Wacom/LatestDriver, and install version 0.31 of input-wacom from the PPA over version 0.23 from the Mint repositories.
That does not solve the problem.

Any other ideas (besides going back to an older kernel)?

Re: Mint 17.2 No Tablet Detected (wacom) [Kernel 3.19 issue]

What I find odd is that a perfectly working system has been killed. Question is why.
And if the change took place in kernel 3.17, that is over a year old. So why hasn't this been fixed?

Re: Mint 17.2 No Tablet Detected (wacom) [Kernel 3.19 issue]

It looks like there will be a certain amount of DIY involved if we want to use a Wacom tablet with any Kernel beyond 3.16. Here is a link to the Linux Wacom Project... http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page Start by having a look at the FAQ for supported devices. While my Intuos...

I am already at Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela, kernel 3.16.0-38-generic. But for some reason it still isn't working.
