Re: Question about Compiz and Mate
You need to install gconf-editor. Then, open gconf-editor and edit apps >> metacity to your liking.

Why not just download the search engine you want from http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?

Re: Compiz / customize theme
You're using Mate? If so, install gconf-editor and open it. You can then customize "apps>metacity" to your liking.

Re: Re: What do you not like about Cinnamon?
Cinnamon lacks the panel launchers, so it's not very efficient. MATE has panels, so that's the way I go. How it looks doesn't matter so much to me, as long as it works and is FAST. One click should be all that's needed to launch often-used programs, so the panels is the right place for the icons; t...

Re: MATE + M$ keyboard no calculator
I added a new shortcut in Keyboard Shortcuts to launch mate-calc with the X86Calculator (or whatever the key is). This disables the default binding. Is that what you did? It should work.

Re: MATE + M$ keyboard no calculator
You should be able to set the key combination in Keyboard Shortcuts. Not in compiz. It works for me.

Re: Do you run 64-bit or 32 bit Mint, and why.
I use 32-bit on both my desktop and laptop. However, that is only so I don't have to hear my wife complain about her flash-based games not working right.

Re: Mate & Compiz - glitchy, slow, too much CPU
Killed romeo? Do you mean marco? I run compiz with mate and nvidia without an issue. Did you replace marco with compiz in mateconf-editor? Added compiz --replace to startup applications? Did you try to log out and back in to see if that helped? I had high cpu usage when I first set it up. However, d...

Re: Compiz doesn't have window borders in 13 MATE?
You have to install gconf-editor. The editor installed, mateconf-editor, won't work for the borders with compiz.

Re: NVIDIA driver
Did you reboot and append a 3 to the kernel line in grub? It may work in recovery mode, as well. Try to re-run the nvidia installer that way. It works on my SL system, anyway.

Laptop: LMDE Mate
Desktop: SL 6.2
Both 32-bit PAE, so my wife's flash games work properly.

Re: Alt + F1 and Alt + F2 doesn't work on Compiz and Metacit
I just installed LMDE and really like it. However, I can't get these two keys to work. Alt+F1 to open menu Alt + F2 to open run dialog I've already spent 4 hours trying to figure it out but no luck. Thanks, I have the same issue. I have not figured out the Alt+F1, but I never use that. As a workaro...
