Mint 13 Cinnamon and netbook resolution

Good morning, peeps :) I've installed Mint 13 Cinnamon on my new Asus Eeepc netbook with VESA Intel graphics. It displays only at 800 x 600, there are no other options. I've updated the Xorg & kernel, no soap - I just can't get it to display 1024 x 600. I wonder if it's a problem within Cinnamon, be...

File managers, viewing folder size by GB

Greetings, all! We're looking for a way to view folder sizes in list view by GB rather than by number of items. I understand that Nautilus does not support this action - can view GB size by right-clicking the individual folder, but not in list view or icon view, which is what is desired. Do any of t...

Re: A little insight to using Debian

Mint Debian is not "Debian with training wheels", Its Debian with power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, the nice stereo, and the optional spoiler package :) But it still has the five-speed manual transmission! I drive a sport sedan with heated seats, moon roof, winter driving packag...

Re: No more Synaptic starting from 11.04

Does anyone think this will help a new user or just make thing more annoying for existing users ? Hmm. Actually I think this could keep new users from becoming confident users. One of the things I like about Synaptic is the Force-Version feature that allows me to roll back a botched update. This re...

Desktop for May, featuring my current favorite DC Comics characters, the Pied Piper and the Trickster. The icon theme, amusingly enough, is called Flash Black green

Re: Why did you switch to linux mint?

At my age, what happens after I croak is a growing concern. That is one part of the reason why I wanted Linux. Windows had grown beyond my ability to keep up with its disorganization I mean complexity. I had considered moving to a Mac when my husband dies (highly likely to be within the next ten ye...

I am pretty geeky but haven't used Linux since 1990.
I wouldn't think so, since the initial source code for Linux wasn't written until 1991 and the first useable distributions didn't appear until 1992

Re: Before I install Linux Mint 8 I need to know...

Hi there, welcome to Mint! Right now I think the only issues in the wireless world are with Broadcomm wireless, everything else seems to be working satisfactorily. As Phaedrus said, give the liveCD a spin first. My advice would be to run off of the liveCD for a day or so, try your regular tasks on i...

Re: Music player question(s)

Hi there, welcome to Mint! Are you using the Main edition or one of the community editions? I ask because each edition comes with a slightly different music player that has slightly different capabilities. An i Phone , you say? Although the major music players (Rhythmbox, Amarok, Banshee) are syncin...
