Re: can't boot - initramfs prompt problem

Looks like my Timeshift is installed within my sda5. I remember getting a notification on install that Timeshift could not be installed on the NTFS partition. If I open Timeshift now, in the bottom right it says I have 4 snapshots and 35.5 gb available in sda5 .. I would think that is still a bit of...

can't boot - initramfs prompt problem

Linux Mint 19.1 Mate would not boot, tried mint 17.3 on same machine and it was fine. 19.1 recovery mode gave me a busybox similar to this https://prognotes.net/2018/04/linux-mint-initramfs-prompt-at-boot/ based on this article, I ran this command fsck <your file system path> -y and it looked like i...

Running mate 17.3 - updated it using update manager and it will not boot up now - a very long error message says xorg will not load because the fglrx driver will not load or is not there (This machine has an AMD radeon chip which is no longer being given drivers, but 17.3 graphics were fine until no...

Re: Firefox will not open

Does anybody know why firefox closes all open tabs when I minimize it ? On mint 17 and 18 it would just re-open all the tabs if I hit the shortcut in the bottom panel. I do have "restore previous session" enabled in the preferences. Chromium on Mint 19.1 is also doing the same thing .. it did not do...

Cannot delete a file (Solved)

Gparted created a log file in my home folder that I would like to delete but cannot. Nor can I figure out how to change the permissions of it so I can delete it. It is a file that I think was created as an optional report that your gparting was successful .. it's just annoying and I would like it go...

Re: Can't access disk space - my GParted error I think

I just had a similar problem with an external hard drive, seems that gparted sets partitions up as owned by root. I needed to change ownership, I used this command $ sudo chown $USER:$USER /media/desktop/"wd 8 tb" media/desktop/"wd 8 tb" you will have to change to fit what you have caveat: i'm a new...

Re: HD properties and Disks manager show different free space

That's normal as there is overhead for metadata, Also there is reserved space of 5% by default for privileged processes: sudo tune2fs -l /dev/sdc1|grep 'Reserved block count' Since it's not a system partition you can set it to 0 with sudo tune2fs -m0 /dev/sdc1 Thanks, Wharf, desktop@desktop ~ $ sud...

HD properties and Disks manager show different free space

I used for first time gparted to reformat a new external drive to ext4. The drive has only one small file on it but rite clic - properties says 7.5 tb free with 400gb used. Disks manager says all 7.9 is free. When I formatted, I was not able to put any files on the drive so I ran this command $ sudo...

Re: Files lost using dual boot on 8 tb hard drives

It looks like the problem was Fast Startup on Windows. I had shut this off when I first got the computer, but it had re-enabled itself, possibly after a Windows update. I shut off Fast Startup and reformatted again to NTFS using Windows and booted back and forth a couple times adding and altering fi...
