Re: Mint v/s Debian

Both will do what you want, Mint relies on Ubuntu and demands a bit less expertise than Debian in order to achieve your goals

thanks, I indeed found the issue and solution in Ubuntu forums

Re: Mint 15 Olivia Can't set screen brightness Dell Inpiron

Hi Enkouyami,

I had a similar issue.
What I did was to add the following line in /etc/default/grub :

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_backlight=vendor"
then

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
sudo reboot
this solved it for me

Re: Google Maps in Mint 15 Cinnamon + Firefox 21

Yes it works as a workaround, I applied the following change in Firefox config : webgl.min_capability_mode to True Now I can use Google Maps, but I get the following notification from Google : "You are currently running in Lite mode and 3D Earth view is not available." This is good as a workaround a...

Re: Google Maps in Mint 15 Cinnamon + Firefox 21

HI Pat, yes I've tried to clear cache and cookies, but it didn't help. Basically I just go to maps.google.com, new version of gmaps loads as if everything is ok, but I cannot move the map, zoom in or perform any search. When doing the same in Chrome or Chromium, it works well, so I suppose it's some...

Google Maps in Mint 15 Cinnamon + Firefox 21

Hi everyone, I'm running Mint 15 RC Cinnamon with Firefox 21, and it seems the new Google Maps interface is not working well. The maps appears, but impossible to scroll, zoom and search, so I have to fall back to Google Maps old version. in Chrome it works well, only Firefox seems to be impacted her...

Re: nvidia driver

Hi,
you could give a try to the Device Driver Manager, as shown here :
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=113559

that worked for me :)

Hi,
you might have tried already but in Mate, have you been in Control Center -> Appearance -> Fonts ?
there, you can just change the size as you wish

Re: Linux Mint 14 "Nadia" RC released!

for me, Mint 14 Mate is the best release so far.
Everything working out of the box, good performance, polished interface...
even openjdk is working for the specific tools I use, and for the first time I didn't have to remove it to install the old Sun Java6 package !

Thanks for a great release !

Re: Device Driver Manager - Help needed

might not be the case... if I look for Quadro NVS 50 for example, Nvidia site suggests to install driver version 96.43.23
so maybe only for newer versions of Quadro boards you can install Nvidia current.
would be nice to find a complete up-to-date official compatibility matrix ;)

Re: LMDE v. Jessie

Hi,
LMDE will just keep snapshoting the testing repos, independent of the Debian Stable version, from what I understand.
So there won't be a transition from Wheezy to Jessie per se.

Hi, you want might to learn just a bit of terminal command to add a custom application repository PPA (I'm sure you know a bit of DOS if using Windows) for Libreoffice, all you need to do in a terminal is : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade for...

is it because you left for almost 2 years that you are wondering now what year it is ? sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but couldn't resist to say :D it got me wondering as well, I guess the comma is just to separate with the hour. Showing the year would be a waste of space in ...
