I'm glad it turned out to be nothing serious in the end!

Re: How to get rid of "Take a break!" [SOLVED]

I did not find 'mate-typing-monitor' in the 20.1 iso package ... I can confirm that mate-typing-monitor is present via a no-internet fresh install of LM 20.1 MATE. Edit: This appears to be managed via Control Center > Keyboard Preferences > Typing Break. That has evidently disappeared after I remov...

Re: How to get rid of "Take a break!" [SOLVED]

The package linux-generic is pretty unlikely to be involved in "Take a break" popups. Just check what is inside linux-generic . It is the upmost Ubuntu meta-package, which makes sure that (cascading) all Linux kernel related software packages will be pulled in and installed. Thanks, I'll ...

Re: How to get rid of "Take a break!" [SOLVED]

In my standard installation procedure I after-install linux-generic. My current version is Linuxmint 20.1 (5.4.0-65-generic) . Maybe that could be the reason. I've looked that up in the Software Manager. The information reads 'You likely do not want to install this package' . Any reason why you are...

That does sound like a bad decision. But I'm wondering why yours seems to be the only case reported on this forum so far. Yes, I have wondered too. Is there anything in your settings called 'typing break'? I found this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/63999/how-can-i-install-typing-break No, and that info is 5 years old. Here's a quote: "Gnome 3 developers have dropped this from gnome-control-center with a recommendation that it be repack...

Re: How to get rid of "Take a break!"

I found it! I searched in /usr/bin for the text "Take a break" and found the program "mate-typing-monitor". Using the man page this is evidently the program causing the irritation. I'm surprised that no one else has seen this, because I did a standard installation, and except fo...

rsibreak is not in the Linux Mint repository, but in the Ubuntu repository. At least, this is true for the one and only Mint release 19.3.

Re: How to get rid of "Take a break!"

Can you describe the way it looks, in more detail? Is there any other text, any logo or image? There's a completely black screen with the text "Take a break" in white letters in the middle. To the left of the text is the "No Parking" sign, and below there's a countdown from 3:00...

Re: How to get rid of "Take a break!"

In the Mint repository is "Rsibreak". If that is the one and has been installed, just go to the computer's menu, right-click on Rsibreak and hit the Uninstall option. There's no such entry. Now I've reinstalled the system again, without Vivaldi. No change so far. I have also disabled &quo...

You don't by any chance use the Vivaldi browser, do you? It has got a "Have a break" icon in the left hand corner of the status bar. If I found the "Break" in Vivaldi, but it doesn't look like the break that disturbs my work. However I tried to stop it, but I don't know if it ha...

I wonder why I didn't think of that. After 14 years with Ubuntu and Mint, I knew that! :)

Well, it wasn't that. I tried to find the active program causing this break by using "htop", but too much is happening and the display isn't stable enough, making it too hard to read. This happens only one or two times a day, so I'll regenerate the system this afternoon, and see tomorrow i...

I found a program called "icaclient" which is part of the Citrix system for connecting to a remote server. This may be the cause of the problem, but it will take a day or two to have it confirmed. Anyway, I don't need that package anymore, so I've removed it. Thanks for helping - I'll be b...

also haven't seen that in LinuxMint 20x did you install it yourself: https://linoxide.com/tools/tool-force-users-periodical-breaks/ if so, you can just remove it's PPA string in the Repository. I can't remember that I've done that, but I'll certainly check. Thanks so far, I'll come back with an upd...
